LOS GUANTES MÁGICOS
The Magic Gloves
(t.l.: I guanti magici)
In altre
d’autore, potrebbe contribuire a rendere meno uniforme
la situazione del cinema sudamericano”.
Biografia
Martín Rejtman (1961) ha studiato cinema alla Escuela
Panamericana de Arte e all’Università di New York. Dopo
quattro cortometraggi e svariate esperienze come aiuto regista
Presentato in numerosi
Alejandro is a “remisero,” a taxi driver of sorts with a smashedup
car who drives around Buenos Aires. Along with the boisterous
taxi driver, there is Valeria, a flight attendant forced to be
content with modest national flights, and Luis, who says he’s an
actor but only puts his talent to use in pornographic films. All
three are waiting for a miracle thanks to a pair of magic gloves
from China. A comedy with “losers” that brings out a city’s
poverty, degradation and the absurdity of everyday life and is, in
other words, about the not-so-hidden side of the West.
“My third film, Los guantes mágicos, is a ‘comedy,’ like my previous
film, Silvia Prieto. I say comedy in quotes perhaps because
not everyone would classify it as such. When I speak of comedy I
obviously think of Howard Hawks, Preston Sturges and the burlesque
films of the 1930s, as well as certain films by Ozu, Rohmer,
Tati and Moretti. In Argentina, and in the rest of Latin America,
this genre has not produced very convincing results. Drama and
magical or social realism, on the other hand, are overly abused.
The diffusion of a certain kind of auteur comedy could contribute
to making South American cinema less uniform.”
