IL CINEMA ARGENTINO CONTEMPORANEO Israel Adrián Caetano UN OSO ROJO A Read Bear (t.l.: Un orso rosso) Dopo aver trascorso sette anni in prigione per omicidio e rapina a mano armata, Oso ottiene la libertà condizionata. Prima di entrare in galera aveva avuto Alicia, la figlia nata dalla relazione con Natalia Oso spera di riconquistare la sua famiglia, di aiutarla, ma per farlo deve tenersi lontano dai guai e domare il suo carattere violento. Quando El Turco cerca di coinvolgerlo in un nuovo colpo, Oso sa di rischiare di perdere la figlia e, però, non può nemmeno rinunciare all’idea di garantirle un avvenire migliore. È il destino di un uomo simile a un cow-boy che vive ai margini della dura realtà delle periferie, con una macchina per cavallo, il bar del Turco per saloon e il sorriso di Alicia come unica ricompensa. “Il giovane regista argentino ha scelto il mondo della malavita e il classicismo (...). Caetano, che fino a questo momento si era mosso nel campo del realismo sociale, si sottomette docilmente alle regole del film di genere. Ma non si tratta di una resa. Il protagonista della storia scopre uscendo di prigione un paese devastato dalla crisi e dalla scomposizione sociale. Caetano da voce agli umili, che trovano in questo angelo della morte, interpretato con forte presenza e un po’ di umorismo da Julio Chávez, un eroe vendicatore, la versione sanguinaria di Robin Hood”. Non voglio realizzare sempre lo stesso film perché non voglio soddisfare gli altri. Quello del ‘nuovo cinema argentino’ è stato utile in alcuni momenti. Before going to jail, he had a daughter, Alicia, from his relationship with Natalia. Oso hopes to win back his family and help Alicia, but to do so he has to stay out of trouble and tame his violent nature. When “The Turk” tries to involve him in a new robbery, Oso knows he risks losing his daughter yet he cannot let go of the idea of guaranteeing her a better future. The film depicts the destiny of a quasi-cowboy who lives at the margins of the harsh reality of the urban outskirts, with a car for a horse, the Turk’s bar for a saloon and Alicia’s smile as his only reward. “The young Argentinean director has chosen the world of crime and classicism (...). Caetano, who up until now has worked within social realism, sweetly submits to the rules of a genre film. But it is not a form of surrender. Upon his release from prison, the main character discovers a country devastated by its crises and social disintegration. IL CINEMA ARGENTINO CONTEMPORANEO Israel Adrián Caetano & Bruno Stagnaro PIZZA, BIRRA, FASO Pizza, Beer and Smokes (t.l.: Pizza, birra, fumo) El Cordobés vive con Sandra, la sua ragazza in cinta, e tre amici, Frula, Megabom e Pablo, in un misero appartamento occupato a Buenos Aires. Questa banda di giovani emarginati, riunita dal caso, cerca di sopravvivere nella grande città rubando per non morire di fame. Un motto sembra guidarli: “quel tanto che basta per una birra”. È l’Argentina prima del 2001, disperata che vive all’inferno e prova a sfuggire alla legge spietata del neoliberismo. Biografia Israel Adrián Caetano è nato a Montevideo nel 1969. Regista, attore e sceneggiatore, ha diretto anche per la televisione. Da molti anni vive in Argentina, paese al quale ha dedicato il suo primo lungometraggio, Pizza, birra, faso, affresco neorealista sulle difficoltà delle vita quotidiana sotto la seconda presidenza di Carlos Menem negli anni ‘90. Il suo primo corto, Visite Carlos Paz, risale al 1992. Crónica de una fuga è stato selezionato nell’ultimo festival di Cannes. L’ultimo progetto è Caudillo. Bruno Stagnaro è nato nel 1973, figlio del cineasta Juan Bautista Stagnaro. Sceneggiatore, produttore e regista, dopo aver diretto alcuni cortometraggi, si fa notare nei festival nel 1995 con Guarisove, los olvidados, presente nella prima serie delle Historias breves. Biography A director, actor and screenwriter, Israel Adrián Caetano (Montevideo, 1969) has directed television programs and short, medium and feature-length films. He has been living in Argentina for a number of years and dedicated to his adopted country his debut feature Pizza, birra, faso, a neo-realist portrait of the difficulties of daily life under the second presidential term of Carlos Menem in the 1990s. He made his first short, Visite Carlos Paz, in 1992. Crónica de una fuga was screened at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival. His latest project is Caudillo. Bruno Stagnaro was born in 1973, the son of filmmaker Juan Bautista Stagnaro. A screenwriter, producer and director of several short films, he received attention at festivals in 1995 for Guarisove, los olvidados, which was part of the first series of Historias breves.
