Jin e Mi sono due amanti felici ma a un certo punto la paura
prende il sopravvento, quello che era amore si trasforma
in diffidenza, sospetto e desiderio di rivalsa. L’arrivo di
Hao segnerà la fine di un racconto amoroso, ma forse
anche l’inizio di una nuova trama. I riflessi dell’amore
sono infiniti e come accade di fronte a uno specchio di un
luna park ciò che possiede una propria forma appare in
modo diverso e distorto.
“Reflections, che dire di questo film se non che un giorno
stai bene e cammini sotto un sole splendente. Passeggi per
le vie trafficate di Taipei City, tieni una tazza di caffè e latte
in mano, e una sigaretta dopo l’altra tra le labbra, e il
fumo sale e scompare di fronte ai tuoi occhi. Le persone
vanno e vengono in mezzo alla nebbia del fumo, invisibili
e altre volte visibili. Trovi un luogo adatto, ti fermi, nessuno
ti nota. Esamini la folla, scopri i loro volti, la luce degli
occhi, il loro modo di vestire e di pettinarsi, i loro amici che
possono piacere o non piacere a tutti, puoi ascoltare un
pezzetto della loro conversazione, sentire il forte profumo
che emanano. Cominci a raffigurarli in tutti i modi e a
immaginarli. Metti tutto quello che sai dentro di loro, e
infine capisci e realizzi che quelli sono Jin, Mi e Hao”.
Yao Hung-i
Biografia
Yao Hung-i è entrato a far parte della 3-H Productions nel
1994 come assistente alla fotografia. È stato assistente alla
regia di Hou Hsiao-hsien, collaborando anche al montaggio,
produzione e scenografia. Negli ultimi anni ha lavorato
come regista e direttore della fotografia di spot pubblicitari
e cortometraggi. Reflections rappresenta il suo esordio
alla regia di un lungometraggio.

Jin and Mi are happy lovers yet, at a certain point, fear overwhelms
them, and what was once love becomes dependence, suspicion
and a desire for revenge. The arrival of Hao will mark the
end of one love story, though perhaps the beginning of another.
The reflections on love are infinite and their shape, as happens in
front of a funhouse mirror, appears different and distorted.
“Reflections: What is there to say about this film except that
one day you feel like taking a walk in the golden sunshine. You
walk through a busy Taipei, a cup of coffee in your hands, one
cigarette after another one between your lips, and the smoke
drifts up and disappears before your eyes. People come and go in
the smoky fog, dim and also clear. You find a nice corner, stop, no
one notices you. You look into the crowd, you discover their
faces, the gleam in their eye, their clothing and hair styles, their
friends who are exactly like them or not at all. You can hear a little
bit of their conversation, you can smell their strong perfume.
You start to imagine them in every way. You put everything that
you know into them, and then you understand and realize they
are Jin, Mi and Hao.”

Biography
Yao Hung-i joined 3H Productions as a camera assistant in 1994
and found himself assisting in virtually every other department
as well. Before long, he was working as Hou Hsiao-Hsien’s assistant
director and also helped with editing, production and art
direction. In recent years, he has worked as a director/cinematographer
of commercials, and has made short films of his
own. Reflections is his debut feature.
