PNC Raya Martin MAICLING PELICULA NAÑG YSAÑG INDIO NACIONAL. O ANG MAHABANG KALUNGKUTAN NG KATAGALUGAN A Short Film about the Indio Nacional. Or the Prolonged Sorrow of Filipinos (t.l.: Un piccolo film sui Nativi. O la sofferenza senza fine del popolo filippino) Ambientato nel 1890, il film rappresenta un ritorno agli albori del cinema, muto e in bianco e nero, ma anche una proiezione verso il futuro, digitale e a colori. Nascita, guerra e morte: tre momenti per raccontare le Filippine e gli indio alla fine della colonizzazione spagnola e per narrare la vita di persone normali escluse a priori dalla “grande storia”. Le musiche sono di Khavn. “Indio Nacional non spera di ricreare soltanto un’esperienza cinematografica andata perduta durante la guerra, ma anche di definire quello che sembra mancare nella nostra percezione del passato: la storia dei sentimenti e delle emozioni di un popolo”. Raya Martin Biografia Raya Martin è nato a Manila nel 1984 ed è considerato tra i giovani filmmaker indipendenti più promettenti. Il documentario The Island at the End of the World ha ottenuto riconoscimenti in patria e all’estero, così come il cortometraggio Bakayson/The Visit vincitore dell’Ishmael Bernal Award per il cinema giovane, al Cinemanila International Film Festival 2004. Lo scorso anno è stato selezionato insieme ad altri cinque registi dalla CineFondation di Cannes. Birth, war and death: three moments for recounting the Philippines and the Indios at the end of Spanish colonization and narrating the life of normal people excluded a priori from “important history.” The musical score is by Khavn. “Indio Nacional not only hopes to recreate a cinematic experience once lost during the war, but to define what appears to be lacking in our perception of the past: the history of emotions and feelings of a people.” Raya Martin Biography Raya Martin was born in Manila in 1984 and is considered one of the most promising of independent filmmakers. His documentary The Island at the End of the World won accolades at home and abroad, as did his short film Bakayson/The Visit, winner of the Ishmael Bernal Award for Young Cinema at the 2004 Cinemanila International Film Festival. Last year, he was selected along with five other directors for the Cannes CineFondation. A Short Film About the Indio Nacional is his debut feature. PNC Kirill Mikhanovsky SONHOS DE PEIXE (t.l.: Sogni di pesce) In un paese della costa nel nordest del Brasile, il diciassettenne Jusce lavora come pescatore subacqueo. Dopo lunghe e pericolose giornate in fondo al mare, corre subito da Ana che vive con la figlia e la madre, ma il cui sogno è andare lontano per scoprire il mondo. La vita di Jusce cambia quando il suo vecchio amico Rogério, ritornando dalla capitale, vede Ana e comincia anche lui a sentirsi attratto da lei. “Sonhos de peixe nasce dalla mia fascinazione per la vita dei pescatori di Baia Formosa. Osservare i loro sforzi sovrumani nello spingere le barche, vederli tagliare il pesce, seguire i loro tragitti in mare, apprendere i pericoli delle immersioni, per me sono state tutte fonti di ispirazione. (...) Tutti gli interpreti (meno due) sono abitanti di Baia Formosa. Sin dalla stesura della sceneggiatura avevo pensato di lavorare con attori non professionisti perché hanno un livello di naturalità inimmaginabile. La loro presenza davanti alla camera è di gran lunga superiore a quella degli attori formati nelle scuole di teatro o di quelli che escono dall’industria cinematografica. Lavorare con le persone del luogo era una condizione fondamentale per realizzare Sonhos de peixe, film che ha rappresentato l’esperienza più importante della mia vita” Kirill Mikhanovsky Biografia Kirill Mikhanovsky è nato a Mosca, da adolescente è emigrato negli Stati Uniti con la sua famiglia. Ha frequentato l’Università del Wisconsin dove ha iniziato a collaborare alla realizzazione di alcuni cortometraggi prima di dirigere il suo Terra terra. Ha lavorato come direttore della fotografia, sceneggiatore e montatore per diversi progetti dell’università di New York. After long and dangerous days spent at the bottom of the sea, he runs to Ana, who lives with her daughter and mother but who dreams of going far away and discovering the world. Jusce’s world changes when his old friend Rogério returns from the capital, sees Ana and also begins feeling attracted to her. Sonhos de peixe came from my fascination with the lives of the fishermen of Baia Formosa, a small village in the Northeast coast of Brazil. Witnessing their vein-popping efforts of pushing boats in water, watching them cut fish, following them on their fishing trips; learning about the perils of diving for lobster was the film’s main source of inspiration. (...) All but two of the actors are residents of Baia Formosa. Working with non-actors was the approach I wanted to use from the moment the script was conceived. Non-actors are by far superior in their on-screen presence than any theatre school-trained, film industry actors. They are capable of a degree of naturalism that cannot be taught. Filming non-actors was the fundamental integrity-guarding condition in the making of Sonhos de peixe, which was the most important experience of my life. Kirill Mikhanovsky Biografia Kirill Mikhanovsky was born in Moscow and as an adolescent immigrated to the US with his family. He studied at the University of Wisconsin, where he worked on several short films before directing Terra terra. He has worked as a DoP, screenwriter and editor on various projects at New York University.
