Il ricordo di un chiosco che vendeva hot dog, il Fred Hakim’s<br />

Hot Dog Stand chiuso il 19 ottobre 1997 e mai più<br />

riaperto. Il documento di un luogo che si trasforma, che<br />

cambia, la visione di persone in transito, le voci che cercano<br />

di attirare l’attenzione per un’ordinazione, una città,<br />

New York, una strada, la quarantaduesima, e Times Square.<br />

Biografia<br />

Peter Sillen ha 32 anni e vive a New York. Gira soprattutto<br />

in 16mm, creando una serie di ritratti di personaggi che<br />

vivono e lavorano oltre l’orario normale dalle 9 alle 5. Ha<br />

maturato importanti esperienze <strong>cinema</strong>tografiche lavorando<br />

per Jeff Preiss, Steve Horn e Matthew Rowlston. Il primo<br />

documentario Speed Racer: Welcome to the World of Vic Chesnutt<br />

è stato presentato al Sundance e ha ricevuto consensi<br />

da parte <strong>del</strong>la critica. Insieme a Jem Cohen ha diretto Benjamin<br />

Smoke, ritaratto di Benjamin Dickerson poeta e cantante<br />

leader <strong>del</strong> gruppo The Smoke, morto di Aids nel 1999.<br />

An homage to Fred Hakim’s Hot Dog Stand, which closed on<br />

October 19, 1997 never to reopen. This is the document of a place<br />

that transforms and changes, the vision of people in transit, the<br />

voices that try to attract attention for an order, a city, New York,<br />

42nd Street and Times Square.<br />

Biography<br />

Peter Sillen is 32 and lives in New York. He shoots primarily in<br />

16mm, creating a series of portraits of people who live and work<br />

beyond the 9-5 schedule. He has gained a lot of his film experience<br />

working for Jeff Preiss, Steve Horn and Matthew Rowlston.<br />

His first documentary, Speed Racer: Welcome to the World<br />

of Vic Chesnutt, screened at Sundance to critical acclaim.<br />

Together with Jem Cohen, he directed Benjamin Smoke, a portrait<br />

of Benjamin Dickerson, the poet and lead singer of the<br />

group The Smoke, who died from AIDS in 1999.<br />
