Il ritratto di una banchina, il fronte del porto di Vancouver,
uno sguardo fisso e ipnotico su un luogo fatiscente dove
passano tonnellate di grano.
“In questo momento mi vergogno di essere una cittadina
americana. Resto per cercare di realizzare lavori che possano
fortificare i cuori e le menti di coloro che vivono qui.
Attualmente sto lavorando a un documentario sperimentale
in 16mm titolato Critter, sulla reintroduzione dei lupi
grigi nel moderno West. Il mio sguardo è sulla battaglia
che gli uomini intraprendono a proposito della gestione
dei branchi di lupi e i confini politici che questi animali
attraversano inconsapevolmente”.

Biografia
Vanessa Renwick, nata nel 1961 a Chicago, è una filmmaker
e videoartista che vive a Portland. Ha realizzato molti
lavori durante la sua carriera e vinto numerosi premi. Dal
2001 lavora spesso con Bill Daniel, e insieme a lui porta le
sue opere in giro per il paese con un furgone. I suoi film e
video sperimentali, le fotografie e le installazioni si concentrano
sulla relazione tra corpo e paesaggio, cercando di
ritrarre figure e territori ai margini del mondo, con l’intento
di immaginare poeticamente la società contemporanea.

fixed and hypnotic gaze at a rundown place through which tons
of wheat pass.
“I am ashamed to be an U.S. citizen at this point. I stay here to
try and make work that will fortify the hearts and minds of those
who live here. Currently I am making a 16mm experimental documentary
entitled Critter, about the reintroduction of gray
wolves into the modern West. My focus is on the battles that
humans play out over the management of the wolf packs and the
political borders that the wolves unknowingly cross.”

Biography
Vanessa Renwick, (Chicago, 1961) is a filmmaker and video
artist living in Portland. She has made many works throughout
her career and won numerous prizes. Since 2001, she has often
worked with Bill Daniel and together they have taken their work
around the country in a van. In her experimental films and
videos, photographs, and installations, she focuses on the relationship
between the body and the landscape, presenting people
and territories at the world’s margins, with the intent of offering
a poetic vision of contemporary society.
