Nel 1969 a Barcellona si tenne un’esposizione antologica
dedicata a Joan Miró presso il palazzo del Col.legi d’Arquitectes
de Barcelona. Miró 37 / Aidez l'Espagne è il primo
di una serie di cortometraggi sull’artista catalano, e fu
proiettato per la prima volta durante l’esposizione. Come
in un found footage, il film è basato su immagini della Guerra
Civile prodotte da documentaristi anonimi, e usate in
seguito dal regime in modo propagandistico. Attraverso le
immagini mitiche della resistenza antifranchista e l’uso
esagerato dello zoom sui dipinti di Miró, Portabella sottrae
il senso apologetico attribuito a quelle riprese.

Partendo da un’idea dello stesso Portabella, Joan Miró
dipinge e “distrugge” un murales sulle vetrate del Col.legi
d’Arquitectes de Barcelona. Anche in questo cortometraggio
il regista insiste sull’intertestualità del cinema e riflette
sull’arte in generale e sull’attitudine dell’artista di fronte
alla sua creazione.

1969: PORTABELLA E MIRÓ
In 1969, an anthological exhibit of Joan Miró’s work was held at
the Col.legi d’Arquitectes in Barcelona. Miró 37/Aidez l'Espagne
was the first of a series of short films on the Catalan
artist, and had its premiere at the exhibit. Like in a found footage
film, this short is based upon images of the civil war produced by
anonymous documentary filmmakers and subsequently used by
the regime as propaganda. Through these legendary images of
the anti-Franco resistance and the exaggerated use of the zoom
on Miró’s paintings, Portabella removes the apologetic sense
attributed to the material.

"destroys" a mural on the windows of the Col.legi d’Arquitectes
in Barcelona. The director insists on the intertextuality of cinema
in this short as well, and reflects on art in general and the
artist’s attitude towards his creation.
