2604 Controller Alarm Operation5.2. TYPES OF ALARM USED IN 2604 CONTROLLERThis section shows graphically the operation of different types of alarm used in the controller. The graphs show changes in PV plotted against time.AlarmType PVFull ScaleHighDeviationHighDeviationLowFull ScaleLowRate ofChangeDeviationBandProcess Variable (PV)Setpoint (SP)OutputStateFull ScaleLowOnOnDeviationLowOnOnDeviationHighDeviationBandFull ScaleHighRate ofChangeOnOn On OnOnOnFigure 5-1: Types of AlarmTimeRate of change alarms detect if the rate of change in PV, set as units per minute or persecond, exceeds the setpoint value. An alarm setpoint set + will detect positive rates ofchange. An alarm setpoint set - will detect negative rates of change. Therefore, if it isrequired to measure the rate of change in both directions then two alarms must have beenconfigured. Since rate of change alarms are calculated over a period of time a small delaymay be apparent before the alarm is indicated. This is generally only noticeable if the PVchanges very quickly.User Guide Part No HA026491 Issue 3.0 Apr-02 5-3
