I T I N E R A R IDolci colline plasmate dalla forza dei ghiacciai d’un tempoe coperte da una lussureggiante vegetazione: questo èil suggestivo panorama che si può godere da Inverigo.La zona offre diversi punti d’osservazione e veduted’eccezione. Inverigo nasconde, però, anche numerositesori: le sue ville e le sue chiese sono ricche di storia earte che pochi conoscono. Bellissima è la chiesa di SantaMaria costruita, come sostiene la tradizione, nel luogo incui, all’inizio del Cinquecento, la Madonna apparve tra irami di un noce a due bambini che si erano perduti. Nelsantuario sono conservati alcuni dipinti, fra cui un “SanCarlo in gloria”, risalente al 1618 circa e attribuito a PierFrancesco Mazzucchelli, detto il Morazzone, e una tavolaraffigurante la “Visitazione”, opera di Francesco Crivellidel XV secolo.Nelle vicinanze di Santa Maria della Noce sorge il piccolooratorio di Sant’Andrea del Navello costruito, secondoquanto riportato da una lapide, prima del 1607. L’interno,costituito da una sola navata, è decorato da stucchidorati che incorniciano affreschi, probabilmente delprimo Seicento, realizzati dai fratelli Della Rovere, dettiFiammenghini.Inverigo disponeva, nei secoli addietro, di un castellodi cui rimangono oggi la torre, il corpo di guardia e lecarceri. La trasformazione dell’edificio in villa iniziò a metàdel Seicento e proseguì poi fino all’inizio dell’Ottocento,con la costruzione dell’ala più recente su disegni diGentle hills formed by the might of past glaciers andcovered with lush vegetation: this is the evocativelandscape to feast your eyes on from Inverigo.The area offers various viewing points andexceptional views. But Inverigo possesses manyhidden gems too: its virtually unknown villas andchurches are rich in history and art. The fine churchof Santa Maria was built – according to tradition– in the very place where in the early 1500s theMadonna appeared to two lost children amidst thethe branches of a walnut tree. Some paintings arekept in the sanctuary including one of ‘St Carlo inglory’ dating back to 1618 and attributed to PierFrancesco Mazzucchelli known as the Morazzone,and a 15 th century board depicting the ‘Visitation’ byFrancesco Crivelli.Near Santa Naria della Noce stands the little oratoryof Sant’Andrea del Navello which, according to whatis recorded on a gravestone, was built before 1607.The inside consisting of a single nave is adornedwith gilded stucco work framing frescoes (probablyfrom the early 1600s) crafted by the Della Roverebrothers also called Fiammenghini.Centuries ago Inverigo used to have a castle, nowreduced to its tower, guard-room and dungeons.The building’s tranformation into a villa began inthe mid 1600s going on until the early 1800s, withthe construction of the most recent wing designedbasically by Leopoldo Pollack. Leopoldo Pollack. Un doppio viale di cipressi parte dalla villascendendo verso Est e verso Ovest e risalendo sulle alturevicine. Con il suo chilometro e mezzo di lunghezza, si trattasicuramente di una delle prime realizzazioni prospettiche acannocchiale della regione. Il viale si allunga in una scalinataalla cui sommità si erge una grande statua di Ercole, nota comeil “Gigante”.Su un’altura all’estremità del paese sorge Villa Crivelli, dove paresia stato ospitato anche Ugo Foscolo. L’edificio più imponentedi Inverigo è sicuramente La Rotonda, la bellissima dimora diproprietà della famiglia del Canova, ora sede della Fondazionedon Carlo Gnocchi. Nella frazione di Cremnago si trova inveceVilla Perego, tuttora abitata dalla famiglia, un maestoso edificiosettecentesco in pietra grigia ideato dall’architetto CarloGiuseppe Merlo.the east and towards the west before climbing back ontothe higher hillsides nearby. This one and a half kilometrestretch of trees is most certainly one of the area’s firstattempts at tapering perspective ever undertaken. Theavenue eventually becomes a ramp of steps at the top ofwhich stands a large statue of Hercules, designated the‘Giant’.On some high ground on the edge of the town stands VillaCrivelli where the poet Ugo Foscolo is supposed to havestayed.
