SAN DOMENICO 4The little chapel of S. Domenico (800 m) is situatednear Breglia straight over the lake. From it you have aspectacular view of the lake and the surroundingmountains. From the chapel a path leads through thewoods to the Santuario della Madonna di Breglia.- starting point: Breglia 750m (6 km. fromMenaggio)- Menaggio - Breglia by bus: line C13- Total walking time: 1.00- ascent: 70 m- trail signs: some signsRoute: From the bus stop in Breglia continuestraight on to the big parking lot on the right sideof the church of S. Gregorio. A wide cart-trackstarts off from here to the right, which leads firstlevel and then slightly uphill to a bifurcation.Keep to the left and follow the cart track that runsaround the hillock to the chapel of San Domenico.From the chapel you follow the cart track throughthe woods, which ends up at a big pasture. Youcross the pasture on the track to the left and youfind yourself right at the beginning of the steps,which lead up the Santuario della Madonna diBreglia. Along the cobbled steps leading to thesanctuary you find some of the 14 granite stationsof “I Misteri del Rosario”. Inside the church thereis a marble statue of the Virgin Mary which hasbeen venerated for more than two centuries. It waskept in a modest oratory until, in 1777, the presentchurch was built. From the Sanctuary you followthe easy lane to the center of Breglia. Near the busstop you can see a Roman tomb dating back to theVI c. It was custom in the Roman Age to placetombs along the main roads to keep the memory ofthe deceased alive. In fact the old roman road,“L’antica Strada Regina”, one of the main connectingroads with the alpine passes, used to pass byBreglia. It lost its importance when the shorter passageover Sasso Rancio, between Menaggio andAcquaseria, was opened (see walk 8).Die Kapelle von San Domenico (800 m), von wo man eine fantastische Sicht auf den zentralen Teildes Sees hat, befindet sich in der Gemeinde von Plesio. Von der Kappelle geht es durch einen Waldzum Santuario della Madonna di Breglia.- Ausgangspunkt der Wanderung: Breglia 749m- Menaggio - Breglia mit der Buslinie C13- Wanderzeit: 1.00 hRoute:Ab der Bushaltestelle in Breglia geht man geradeausbis zum großen Parkplatz rechts neben der Kirchevon S. Gregorio. Ab hier fängt ein breiter Fahrweg nachrechts an. Man folgt ihm durch den Wald, und an derGabelung nimmt man links. Man steigt leicht an undumgeht den Hügel bis zu der Kapelle San Domenico.Ab San Domenico folgt man dem Fahrweg durch denWald bis man eine große Wiese erreicht. Man überquertdie Wiese nach links und kommt so zum Anfang derTreppe, die zu dem Santuario della Madonna di Bregliahinauf führt. An der Treppe entlang trifft man noch aufeinige der 14 Stationen der “Misteri del Rosario”,ursprünglich aus ebensoviel Granitsäulen bestehend,jede mit einem Gemälde auf Kupfer, das die jeweiligeSAN DOMENICO 4- Steigung: 70 m.- Markierung: einige SchilderStation des Leidenwegs darstellt. Die Kirche beherbergteine marmorne Statue der Jungfrau, die seit über 200Jahren Gegenstand einer großen Verehrung ist. Auf demRückweg vom Santuario folgt man dem bequemen Pfadder abwärts nach Breglia führt. Gerade vor dem Friedhofgibt es ein römisches Grab aus dem VI Jh. Es warGebrauch in der römische Zeit, Grabe an derHauptstrasse zu stellen um sich so besser derVerstorbene zu gedenken. Die obere Variante der ViaRegina, ein historisch wichtiger Weg, der Como mit denAlpenpasse verband, lief damals an Breglia vorbei.Nachher verlor sie ihre Wichtigkeit, wenn die kürzereStrecke über Sasso Rancio, zwischen Menaggio undAcquaseria, geöffnet wurde (siehe Wanderung 8).
