PRESENTAZIONE Conosciamo l’assillo interiore, l’urgenza quasi drammatica, con cui Don Alberione percepiva la “grazia del tempo” e la sua responsabilità. Gli eventi e gli stessi anniversari che scandivano il suo cammino, venivano contrassegnati da iniziative che li rendessero fecondi e duraturi, quasi scolpiti nella storia. Si comprende così la densità di opere e di pubblicazioni che nacquero nei primi anni Trenta del Novecento. Nel 1932 Don Alberione aveva celebrato il suo 25° di ordinazione sacerdotale e stava provvedendo alla nascita delle prime comunità all’estero. Tali circostanze acuirono in lui quel clima di fervore e di profonda meditazione che già avvolgeva la vigilia dell’Anno Santo della Redenzione, 1933. Fu proprio in quei mesi che venne redatto e pubblicato il presente libro, Per i nostri cari Defunti. Il suo contenuto è tutto dedicato ai temi della Eternità, del Purgatorio e del Suffragio per le anime dei defunti: argomenti allora fortemente sentiti dalla devozione del popolo e dalla prassi pastorale. 1. Il testo espone la dottrina tradizionale sui suddetti argomenti, ed è articolato in trenta considerazioni, una per ogni giorno del mese di Novembre. In ogni capitolo sono riportati passi della Bibbia, dei Padri e di scrittori ecclesiastici, con il corredo di episodi esemplari. Come in molte pubblicazioni popolari del tempo, lo stile della presente è dimesso, diseguale e criticamente approssimativo: mancano quasi del tutto le citazioni delle fonti, e molte affermazioni degli autori sono riferite a senso. Il libro ha comunque incontrato il favore del pubblico, e le varie edizioni (due nel primo anno) confermano il successo che ne seguì. Ne diamo una sommaria relazione. La 1 a e la 2 a edizione (Alba 1932), sono pressoché identiche, sia nei contenuti che nella presentazione. Il testo inizia ex abrupto con un’antifona della liturgia funebre, seguita dal decreto tridentino sul Purgatorio. La copertina è illustrata da
