288 GIORNO XXIX amico: «Lazzaro, vieni fuori», ed ammetteteli, come già S. Giovanni, alle delizie che si gustano riposando sul vostro seno: e fate che glorificati essi da Voi, ottengano a noi tutti la grazia di esser loro vicini per tutti i secoli su nel Cielo, come per naturali legami, per amichevoli affetti e per opera di santa beneficenza, ci furono sempre vicinissimi sopra la terra. GIORNO XXX SUFFRAGI E VITA CRISTIANA Tra il Purgatorio e la terra vi può essere uno scambio di aiuti potenti ed un affetto che lega chi milita e chi si purga. Chi vive solleva e libera l’anima dalle sue pene e, suffragando, si santifica. Chi si purga, riceve e dà; salvato poi dal Purgatorio, attira al cielo il liberatore: «Un amico fedele è rifugio sicuro». 1 * * * Il divoto delle anime purganti: a) Anzitutto avrà il bene di convertirsi ed acquistare la remissione della colpa ed anche della pena dei peccati proprii. Chi libera gli altri: concepirà vivo dolore delle proprie colpe, avrà la grazia di sante confessioni, farà penitenza con diligente premura, acquisterà le indulgenze della Chiesa. Le considerazioni che fa sul purgatorio e l’aiuto delle preghiere delle anime purganti da lui soccorse opereranno santamente sopra il suo cuore. b) Inoltre eviterà le colpe veniali, che sono altra causa per cui tante anime cadono in purgatorio. Il peccato veniale, considerato con l’occhio del | mondo, è un piccolo male; ma considerato alla luce del fuoco del purgatorio, è un male grande; sebbene non sia la morte, come il peccato grave. Se un peccato veniale, per esempio una bugia, costasse anche solo un’ora di fuoco, chi non la eviterebbe ad ogni costo? c) L’accettazione della morte ed il ricevere i SS. Sacramenti per tempo è uno dei mezzi più sicuri, più efficaci per tutti onde in morte acquistare la remissione della pena che dovremmo scontare in purgatorio.
