THE 50 TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE LAW OF CHRIST 243laxism, now becomes at times a kind of instrument of reactionand resistance to change.Employing a musical analogy, Arnzt then presents JosephMausbach as an Overture to the call for the renewal of moraltheology at Vatican II. The basis for this claim is thatMausbach, while broadly accepting the critique of casuistrytypical of his time, does not accept the displacement of thebroader theological tradition by the moral theology of St.Alphonsus as presented by Rome.
