Therefore all kinds of texts, includingthe fiction, represent the object of cultural research. Some fictionaltexts may also be used as an interpretative paradigm in cultural studies. This method allows teaching the foreign culture not only as a simple collectionof facts about history, politics, economy, science, literature andarts, but also it makes possible to recognize the culture as backgroundknowledge of a language society, which is based on its common experience, tradition, lifestyle and determines the communication and understandinginside the lingual community. The article presents the most relevantGerman fictional texts, created in the last two decades. The texts reflectthe actual social discourses and so far can be used as explanatory patternsin the university teaching of German language and literature.98
