JEMAL JINJIKHADZEON ONE MISTAKE IN SCHOOL MATHEMATICSAND IN THE METHODS OF TEACHING ITIn the methods of teaching mathematics (and not only in the methods)two definitions of a square are accepted: 1) a square is a rectanglewith equal sides; 2) a square is a parallelogram with right angles. However,these two definitions are incongruous simultaneously. If the first definitionis accepted, then the concept defined by the second definition becomesmeaningless and is the second one is accepted, then the concept ofthe first definition loses its meaning. It is so because the basis of thehypothesis (concept) definition is classification, whereas the basis ofclassification is subdivision of the set into nonintersecting subsets. Thearticle substantiates the given point of view. The mistake is elucidated.768
