My contribution to the fungal knowledge of IndiaHosagoudarPrefaceIt is my pleasure to present this work. In reality, this work comprises the contents of my publications from1–390 (save the subsequent ones). I started my career with fungi of Western Ghats in Satara, Maharashtra, duringthe year 1974 under the guidance of Dr. P.B. Chavan, which ‘sowed the seed of fungus’ in me. This seed startedgrowing as a tree during the years 1981–1996 under the guidance of eminent personalities of Botanical Surveyof India, Southern Circle, Coimbatore. All these works are based on the Western Ghats fungi, but a few are fromcooling towers, Eastern Ghats, northeastern India and Andaman Islands. The work includes the fungi from Satara inMaharashtra; Nilgiris, Anamalai, Seithur Hills, Godheyar, etc. from Tamil Nadu; mainly from Kodagu in Karnataka;most of the places in the Western Ghats of Kerala State have been covered. This is the outcome of the result of theindividual publications resulted in district-wise or forest-wise inventories and the compilation of all these are the outcome of the present work. My work presented here should be supplemented with works by other fungal experts inIndia to know the exact number of fungi from the Western Ghats.-- V.B.
