<strong>My</strong> <strong>contribution</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>fungal</strong> <strong>knowledge</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>India</strong><strong>Hosagoudar</strong>PrefaceIt is my pleasure <strong>to</strong> present this work. In reality, this work comprises <strong>the</strong> contents <strong>of</strong> my publications from1–390 (save <strong>the</strong> subsequent ones). I started my career with fungi <strong>of</strong> Western Ghats in Satara, Maharashtra, during<strong>the</strong> year 1974 under <strong>the</strong> guidance <strong>of</strong> Dr. P.B. Chavan, which ‘sowed <strong>the</strong> seed <strong>of</strong> fungus’ in me. This seed startedgrowing as a tree during <strong>the</strong> years 1981–1996 under <strong>the</strong> guidance <strong>of</strong> eminent personalities <strong>of</strong> Botanical Survey<strong>of</strong> <strong>India</strong>, Sou<strong>the</strong>rn Circle, Coimba<strong>to</strong>re. All <strong>the</strong>se works are based on <strong>the</strong> Western Ghats fungi, but a few are fromcooling <strong>to</strong>wers, Eastern Ghats, nor<strong>the</strong>astern <strong>India</strong> and Andaman Islands. The work includes <strong>the</strong> fungi from Satara inMaharashtra; Nilgiris, Anamalai, Seithur Hills, Godheyar, etc. from Tamil Nadu; mainly from Kodagu in Karnataka;most <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> places in <strong>the</strong> Western Ghats <strong>of</strong> Kerala State have been covered. This is <strong>the</strong> outcome <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> result <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>individual publications resulted in district-wise or forest-wise inven<strong>to</strong>ries and <strong>the</strong> compilation <strong>of</strong> all <strong>the</strong>se are <strong>the</strong> outcome <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> present work. <strong>My</strong> work presented here should be supplemented with works by o<strong>the</strong>r <strong>fungal</strong> experts in<strong>India</strong> <strong>to</strong> know <strong>the</strong> exact number <strong>of</strong> fungi from <strong>the</strong> Western Ghats.-- V.B. <strong>Hosagoudar</strong>4132Journal <strong>of</strong> Threatened Taxa | www.threatenedtaxa.org | 18 May 2013 | 5(8): 4129–4348
