One of these is the connection whichJohn Paul II establishes between moral truth and the martyr. To underlinethe 10th anniversary of this important document, the authorshows how the martyr is the guarantor of moral truth and of a “moralityof the maximum”. The article involves four stages. Having rejectedthe objection of Nietzsche to the cogency of the relationship between themartyr and the truth, as understood by Pascal, the author advances histhesis by noting the existence of an intrinsic tie between the martyr, thepaschal mystery and the Eucharist, in which this mystery is made present.On this basis it is possible to formulate a “morality of the maximum”,a morality that goes beyond the bounds, of which the death ofEdith Stein († 1942) might serve as a paradigm for humanity today.La Encíclica Veritatis Splendor ha estimulado la reflexión sobrediversos temas de la teología moral. Uno de éstos es el nexo que JuanPablo II establece entre la verdad moral y el martirio. Para subrayar el10º aniversario de este importante documento, el autor pretendedemostrar cómo el martirio es la garantía de la verdad moral y de unamoral del máximum. Para ello procede en cuatro etapas. Tras rechazarla objeción de Nietzsche contra Pascal que fundadamente defendía larelación entre el martirio y la verdad, el autor trata de preparar el terrenoa la ilustración de su tesis, según la cual existe un nexo intrínsecoentre el martirio, el misterio pascual y la eucaristía que lo actualiza.
