It is thesystem of derivative types of words and the process of creating structural and semanticformulas and patterns on which language builds new words. It also inquires development,modern condition, different types and productivity of linguistic units. Word-formationprocesses are numerous.Word-formation system of Modern French Language has passed a long way of itsdevelopment. In the system of French word-formation there are adjective-forming suffixes,creating significant derived adjectives. The circulation sphere of other suffixes is limitedand they form derived adjectives of terminological character. The revival of the wholenumber of “bookish’’ suffixes is explained by requirement of words denoting an object signand expressing changes that take place in a field of science and technique, in a socialpoliticallife.In modern French Literary language derived adjectives are used both with relativeand qualitative meanings. Relative adjectives can be also used with figurative meaning andin this case they can develop a qualitative meaning too. Qualitative adjectives which denotean object sign are changeable. They are distinguished with a particular grammar sign:1) They can be changed according to comparative degree: e.g. plus sport if2) From qualitative adjectives it is possible to create affectionate and diminutiveforms: e.g. pâlot, vieillot, jeunet, maigrelet and etc.190
