KNOW ARCHITETTURAEssere nei luoghiA un giovane architetto spagnolo il BSI Swiss Architectural Award.di Porzia Bergamasco - foto di Enrico CanoJosé Maria Sanchez Garcia, di base a Madrid, era un candidatoassieme ad altri 26 provenienti da 16 Paesi, ma la giuriadel premio biennale BSI Swiss Architectural Award, che assegna100mila franchi al vincitore, è stata unanime: il suo mododi progettare “testimonia la maturità di un architetto, nemmenoquarantenne, capace di confrontarsi con eguale rigore e precisionecon programmi e contesti diversi”. E le tre opere esaminate lo confermano,a iniziare dalla riqualificazione dell’area del Tempio diDiana, a Merida in Spagna, che impone un raffronto con la storia econ il disordinato sviluppo edilizio. E così anche il centro per l’innovazionesportiva a Guijo de Granadilla: una felice piccola propagginedi terra dell’Estremadura, dalla forma circolare, ricopertadi vegetazione che degrada sulla costa sabbiosa verso l’Oceano, sucui sembra poggiata. Non a caso ormai la scuola nautica si chiama“el Anillo” perché è un grande anello, vuoto al centro e percorribilesul tetto, sospeso nella pineta, con affaccio a 360° sul panorama. Einfine il centro per il canotaggio ad Alange, a picco sul mare su unpromontorio brullo: neutro ed esatto per la sua funzione, non lasciaspazio a compiacimenti formali. Sembrano tre diversi ‘dispositivi’che aiutano semplicemente a cogliere il bello di luoghi di per sésuggestivi. Una capacità di immedesimazione rara che dice moltodella capacità di coltivare la propria sensibilità per tramutarlain architettura. Le immagini di tutti i progetti candidati e vincitorisaranno in mostra all’Accademia di architettura di Mendrisio (Universitàdella Svizzera italiana) fino al 26 ottobre.BEING IN PLACEA young Spanish architect receives the BSI Swiss ArchitecturalAward.José Maria Sanchez Garcia, based in Madrid, was a candidatealong with 26 others from 16 countries, but the jury ofthe biennial BSI Swiss Architectural Award, which allocates100,000 francs to the winner, was unanimous: his way of designing“testifies to the maturity of an architect, not yet forty,who is capable of dealing with the same rigour and precisionwithin different programs and contexts”. And his threeentry works confirm this, starting with urban redevelopmentaround the Temple of Diana in Merida, Spain, which requiredstudying the area’s history and dealing with a hodgepodge ofconstruction development. It was the same with the Guijode Granadilla sports innovation centre: a pleasant little offshootof land in Extremadura, round in shape, covered withvegetation sloping along the sandy coast to the ocean, whereit seems to hover. It’s no coincidence that the sailing schoolis now called “El Anillo”, for its large ring-like shape, emptyin the centre with a walkway on the roof, suspended in thepine forest with a 360-degree view. And finally, the canoeingcentre in Alange, high above the sea on a bleak promontory:neutral and exact functionally, it leaves no room for formalcomplacency. They look like three different “devices” thatsimply help to capture the beauty of places that are picturesquein themselves. This rare ability to identify says a lotabout the capacity to cultivate his sensitivity and transformit into architecture.
