CUEVA DE LAS MANOSPATAGONIATreni in corsa verso orizzonti smisurati,laghi smeraldini e una ‘meseta’ infinita.Immigrati nostalgici ed eremitici custodi diboschi pietrificati, tra guanachi (i cammellilocali) e leoni marini. Il viaggio in questo‘pianeta’ a forma di cuneo, può iniziare neipaesaggi alpestri della famosa stazione sciisticadi San Carlos de Bariloche, ai piedidelle Ande. Bastano però poche decine dichilometri per entrare in un altro mondo,dove la cartolina classica raffigura unachacra, ovvero una fattoria e uno steccato.Ed è in una di queste cartoline, quelladi Cholila, che nel 1901 trovarono rifugiogli eroi del “Mucchio Selvaggio”: i leggendariButch Cassidy e Sundance Kid. Unapianura dove il vento non incontra ostacolie corre tra rari filari di pioppi e arbusti paffuti.A seguire si entra nella Patagonia dellesteppe: un mondo fatto di saliscendi impercettibilie di rios le cui acque hanno tutta laforza delle Ande. Centinaia di chilometri incui i villaggi che s’incontrano spariscono inun attimo, inghiottiti dalla polvere. All’improvviso,però, l’orizzontale uniformitàcolor ocra si trasforma in verde e azzurro:diventa mare. È il lago Buenos Aires, tantogrande da non vederne l’altra sponda; oltre,superata Los Antiguos, c’è una grande‘meseta’, un territorio sacro agli indiosTehuelches. Ci venivano a morire i vecchi,gli antiguos. Puntando verso oriente, comparel’oceano, e nei pressi di Cabo Blancoc’è un’isoletta dove i leoni marini passanole giornate a scaldarsi. Si può decidere dipuntare verso nord, meta la PenìnsulaValdés e la sua riserva naturale. O a sudverso Puerto Deseado. 70 km dopo ci sipuò arrampicare sul Mirador de Darwin eammirare la fine del mondo.Figure geometriche e rappresentazioni delsole. This is Lake Buenos Aires, so bigyou can’t see the opposite shore; beyond,past Los Antiguos, there is a big “meseta”,a land sacred to the Tehuelches Indians.The antiguos came here to die. Nowwe head eastward and the ocean inevitablyappears. Near Cabo Blanco is a smallisland where sea lions spend their daysbasking in the sun. You may decide to gonorth, to the Valdés Peninsula and its naturereserve.
