The Industrial Revolution and the Artsand Crafts Movement-Decorative and Industrial Arts in the age ofmechanical reproduction-The uprising against the new industrialsystems: William Morris and the Arts &Crafts Movement-Graphic art and visual communicationbetween the XVIII and the XIX century2. The rise of the industrial product-Thonet’s furniture as patented furnitureand in series-Design and graphic art in the age of theLiberty-The rise of the Industrial Design: WienerWerkstätte; Deutsche Werkbund;Arbeitsrait für Kunst; USA3. The artistic industrial production-The Bauhaus: the achievement of theconcept of standard-Design and graphic art of the ModernMovement-Design from ScandinaviaAt the end of each period an ex tempore ofcritical synthesis of the main arguments isexpected, consisting in a critical record ona product of industrial, graphic or interiordesign. Ilpercorso formativo propone lo sviluppodelle sue abilità grafiche e suscita laformazione di ’immagini mentali’ deglioggetti e dello spazio che li contiene.Aims and contentsThe target of the course is therepresentation of objects as a cognitivetool of the laws that govern their formalstructure, a tool of analysis of their values,expressive action and visualcommunication.During the applied part of the course thestudent learns graphic techniques and thecontrol of the tools of the representationapplied both to the analysis of thecharacteristics of a specific object, and tothe definition of the project. The studentwill develop his or her graphic abilities andcapacity to form ‘mental images’ of objectsand of the space that contains them.Articolazione delle attività didatticheLe lezioni ex-cathedra introdurranno oseguiranno le esercitazioni con l’obiettivodi promuovere la riflessione intorno al temadella figurazione.Le esercitazioni si svolgeranno praticando ildisegno a mano libera e la graficabidimensionale anche attraversol’esecuzione di disegni guidati, la ripresafotografica e la costruzione di modelli.Al termine delle lezioni si terrà unseminario didattico con finalità applicative.Obiettivo del seminario sarà lo sviluppodelle capacità di sintesi dell’allievo.Articulation of the educational activitiesThe lessons introduce or follow exercises topromote reflection around the theme offiguration.
