Vallecrosia sarebbe pertanto la città nata in una valle corta e stretta. Più recentemente il nome Vallecrosia è stato interpretato come vallata del torrente Crosia ed è per tale ragione che il torrente Verbone, che divide in due il territorio vallecrosino, è anche conosciuto erroneamente come Crosia.
