strumento di questo tipo risale all´anno 1831, al termine di un viaggio esplorativo
intorno al mondo, che diverrà la più importante missione scientifica mai compiuta
fino a quel momento. FitzRoy, tenente di vascello sul famoso brigantino della
Royal Navy che compì l’impresa e poi direttore del nascente ufficio meteorologico
britannico, ha, per primo, l’idea di dotare le navi di un particolare strumento
meteorologico, che da lui prese il nome di barometro di FitzRoy, costituito da
una provetta di vetro sigillata contenente una soluzione chimica che modifica
il proprio aspetto all´approssimarsi di variazioni meteorologiche. Per secoli
quest´ampolla di vetro riempita di canfora è stata, quindi, un fedele aiuto per
esploratori, avventurieri e navigatori ed è ancor oggi un mistero, ma funziona: the
Weather Glass prevede il tempo. Infatti la speciale e inspiegabile interazione tra
la canfora presente nell´ampolla e il contenitore, crea una sua magia; questo rende
ogni The Weather Glass diverso dall´altro e quindi unico!

The Weather Glass:
a modern version of a historic object.
A real piece of Danish design, The Weather Glass barometer from
Inca embodies unique elegance. The first documented use of such an
instrument was in 1831, at the end of an around-the-world journey of
discovery, the most important scientific mission to that point. FitzRoy,
lieutenant of the famous Royal Navy brigantine that made the journey,
and later director of the fledgling British meteorological office, first had
the idea of outfitting ships with a special meteorological instrument,
which came to be called the FitzRoy barometer. It consists of a sealed
glass tube containing a chemical solution that alters in appearance
when the weather changes. For centuries, this camphor-filled glass
phial was a boon for explorers, adventurers and navigators, and is still
a mystery. But it works: the Weather Glass predicts the weather. In
fact, the inexplicable interaction between the camphor and the phial
creates its own magic; this makes The Weather Glass unique!
