LUXURY MODA
Made in Italy. Mio fratello e io lavoriamo ogni giorno per mantenere
aggiungere altro Tomaso?
Gaia and Tomaso: fashion, a complex art form.
Gaia and Tomaso Trussardi are, respectively, Creative Director
and CEO of the Trussardi Group, the Maison leading the
Art project at Expo Milan 2015 with the exhibition “The Great
Mother”, organised by the Foundation named after their father,
Nicola Trussardi.
One hundred years of history, a style of natural elegance which
both embody. We met them in Milan, in the splendid setting
of Palazzo Trussardi alla Scala, the flagship building that houses
showrooms, boutiques, exhibition space, a glass terrace
café topped by the first vertical garden in Italy, and a restaurant
which will be replicated in Dubai within the year.
Gaia, will you introduce the Trussardi brand?
Trussardi is a family business founded in 1911 to make luxury
gloves. My father, Nicola Trussardi, diversified into clothing
and accessories, culminating in a lifestyle concept by collaborating
with the most important Italian companies to redefine
Made in Italy. My brother and I work every day to keep alive the
spirit of an eclectic brand linked to a tradition and an important
history, but with a light, dynamic and contemporary mood,
a desire to live, to move forward, to run, like the Greyhound,
its symbol. The Trussardi brand is constantly expanding, highly
active in fashion, food, art and design. In recent years we have
also developed new licensing partnerships that have taken the
brand into underwear, watches and home decor.
Would Tomaso like to add something about leather, your main
material?
We were among the first to mix leathers in the same garment. We
used crêpe, an iconic material, combined with vegetable calf,
which is very difficult to work with.
By focussing on quality of materials combined with new processing
technologies, we create garments today that combine
elegance and practicality, like our down jacket made of light
leather with water-repellent technology, which best reflects the
values of elegance, tradition and continuous innovation.
A favourite memory of your father?
T. There are many. Those related to the company include times
when my father would take us over the weekend to the historical
site of Almè, in the province of Bergamo, to learn about working
with leather. We began to breathe the air of the family and to
live the values of the brand. My father considered fashion a
complex art form, because it uses different skills for each job.
This is definitely one of our father’s most important teachings
and it drives our commitment to grow and strengthen the Trussardi
brand worldwide.
G. Memories of my father as a business owner are his ability to
