L’edificio che un tempo
ospitava un grande ufficio
postale, oggi è la sede del
centro commerciale Magna
Plaza (magnaplaza.nl), con le
sue magniloquenti arcate dove
si annidano decine di negozi.
Gli shop più modaioli e trendy
(con incursioni nell’etnico) sono
in Utrechtsestraat. Il canale
Singel invece ospita un originale
mercato dei fiori flottante.
Si può bere un bicchiere di
vino in un ‘bruin cafè’, o bar
marrone, per il colore delle
boiserie. O una birra organica
davanti al Mulino de Gooyer,
nella Brouwerij‘t IJ, un
birrificio fondato in un piccolo
edificio sul fiume Ij nel 1983.
Per un cocktail ‘diverso’:
il Comedy Cafè
(comedycafe.nl), dove si può
assistere a performance di
cabaret e trasformismo.
Affacciato su uno dei canali
più belli della città, il Bo Cinq
(bocinq.nl) è un ristorante dalla
cucina mediterranea con echi
nordafricani. Da non perdere il
salmone in crosta con salsa di
harissa e il couscous vegetariano
con fichi caramellati. La
domenica pomeriggio musica
e cibo al Kapitein Zeppos
(zeppos.nl), uno dei posti preferiti
da chi abita qui.
Lungo il Canale Herengracht
trovate il Max Brown Hotel
(maxbrownhotels.com), una
struttura composita che include
3 edifici monumentali con
facciata risalente a 300 anni
fa. Mentre il Sir Albert Hotel
(siralberthotel.com) è accanto
alla Museumplein, di fronte al
Rijksmuseum (il centro è a 10
minuti di tram), è un boutique
hotel con un ottimo ristorante
giapponese.

beneath its magnificent arches.
The most fashionable and trendy
shops (with forays into the
ethnic) are in Utrechtsestraat.
The Singel Canal hosts an
original floating flower market.
APERITIFS
Sip a glass of wine in a “bruin
café”, or brown bar, for the
colour of the wainscoting.
Or have an organic beer in
front of the Molino de Gooyer
in Brouwerij’t IJ, a brewery
founded in a small building
on the IJ River in 1983. For
a “different” cocktail, try the
Comedy Café (comedycafe.nl),
where you can attend cabaret
and mime performances.
DINNER
Overlooking one of the most
beautiful canals in the city, the
Bo Cinq restaurant (bocinq.nl)
has Mediterranean cuisine with
a North African flair. Don’t miss
the crusted salmon with harissa
sauce and vegetarian couscous
with caramelized figs. On Sunday
afternoon, enjoy music and food
at Kapitein Zeppos (zeppos.nl), a
favourite among the locals.
