OSTENSIONE DELLA SINDONE 2015
Il volto dell’Uomo della
Sindone (negativo fotografico)
eventi d’arte, musica, teatro, danza e fotografia.
EXPOSITION OF THE SHROUD 2015
The Holy Shroud, according to tradition the cloth mentioned
in the Gospels that was used to wrap the body of Jesus in
the tomb, will again be on display in Turin Cathedral, for
67 days from 19 April to 24 June. The herringbone linen
shroud, nearly 4 metres long and 1.13 metres wide, has been
housed in Turin since 1578.
Turin is preparing to welcome a large number of visitors,
guided by faith or a thirst for knowledge, who will have a
chance to observe the Shroud at close hand.
The many visitors will include Pope Francis, who will be in
Turin on Sunday, 21 June. For a deeper knowledge of the
Shroud, visit the Museum in Via San Domenico 28, also in
Turin, which displays precious artefacts and unique objects
that trace its history, and reveals more about the results of
related scientific research to date.
The Organising Committee has sponsored art, music, theatre,
dance and photography events during the exposition period.
One of the most important is the exhibition of the painting
“Lamentation Over the Dead Christ” (1436) by Giovanni
da Fiesole, known as Fra Angelico (photo below), a work
of great artistic value on display at the Diocesan Museum
throughout the period of the Exposition. The Spring 2015
Exposition is linked to another event involving Turin through
16 August: the bicentennial of the birth of Don Bosco,
founder of the Salesian congregation. The visit to the Holy
Shroud is free, but booking is required.
