Tornando in albergo, saluteremo la nonstra bici ‘londinese’ dicendole: “God save the Bike!”. Alla prossima pedalata! 26 ULISSE MARZO 2015 Dear traveller, I’m a 23-year-old Roman, and each day on my Instagram account I post stories about my travels using bicycles I find casually on the street in various cities. Perhaps the play on words doesn’t do justice, but the name of our feature means “I came, I saw, I cycled”. You get it. Our bike trip this month takes us north, past the English Channel to London. Rested and ready, we set out from our hotel to The Clove Club in Spitalfields, where millions of Instagram users come daily to photograph the kitchen. After taking photos and tasting delicious chocolate muffins, we’re back on our bikes heading toward our first stop, the Saatchi Gallery. Founded in 1985 by Charles Saatchi, it wows visitors with its eclectic, multi-disciplinary character. Don’t miss the huge oil tub displayed on the ground floor. For lunch, there’s only one place for us bike lovers: Look Mum No Hands! Needless to say, everything here “revolves” around this marvellous object. Bikes stashed everywhere, cups, shirts -everything sports a bicycle motif. As we approach Shoreditch, we pedal farther, toward East London in search of the area’s many flea markets. The most famous is Brick Lane, with 250 square metres of clothes, handbags and vintage accessories to make your head spin. In the evening, be prepared to queue - worth the wait - at the Burger & Lobster in Soho. At reasonable prices, you can enjoy excellent lobster in a tasty special sauce with chips, a dish even American cousins will envy. For after-dinner drinks, we walk our bikes to the oldest and most characteristic Speakeasy in the city, the Experimental Cocktail Club. Back at our hotel we salute our londoner bike , with “God Save the Bike!”. Until our next ride!
