Autentici must, che si possono trovare solo a Londra. Come gli
ombrelli e gli eleganti bastoni da passeggio, o da collezione, di
James Smith & Sons. Negozio fondato nel 1830 in New Oxford
Street, dal quale è difficile uscire a mani vuote (james-smith.co.uk).
I migliori sarti si trovano in Savile Row, dove si creano abiti con
tessuti preziosi su misura, per ognuno dei quali sono necessarie circa
50 ore di lavorazione. Merita sicuramente una visita la boutique
di Henry Poole, che dal 1806 veste l’aristocrazia inglese e che ha
inventato lo smoking (henrypoole.com). Gli orologi più eleganti
sono quelli della maison Bremont, nella centralissima Mayfair,
che ha da poco lanciato una serie di sei cronografi (bremont.com).
Non distante da qui si trovano le vetrine di Harrys of London
dove le scarpe sono realizzate con vitelli e modelli impeccabili
(harrysoflondon.com). In Sloane Street si trovano, invece, le grandi
firme, da Dior a Gucci, mentre a Knightsbridge vale una visita
il primo negozio di Harvey Nichols, il grande magazzino del lusso,
all’interno di un edificio del 1813. Bates è, invece, il regno di
cappelli meravigliosi, ma anche guanti, gemelli, sciarpe e cravatte,
da provare nel negozio storico, del 1898, in Jermyn Street (bateshats.co.uk).
Per gli uomini la giornata non può dirsi conclusa senza
il rito della barba da Ted’s Grooming Room, dove si possono
acquistare anche profumi e creme (tedsgroomingroom.com) o in
Mayfair da Trumper barbiere d’altri tempi. Per ‘lei’, invece, gli
scaffali di Ormonde Jayne, in Old Bond Street, carichi di essenze
pure e rare (ormondejayne.com).

Al quinto piano di Harvey Nichols un angolo di delizie in
omaggio al musical “Viva Forever!”
Must-haves that can only be found in London include umbrellas
and elegant walking sticks or collectibles, at James Smith
& Sons. It’s difficult to leave empty-handed from this shop,
founded in 1830 in New Oxford Street (james-smith.co.uk). The
best tailors are in Savile Row, where suits tailor-made with fine
fabrics require about 50 hours of work each. Visit the Henry
Poole boutique, dressers of the English aristocracy since 1806
and inventers of the tuxedo (henrypoole.com). The most elegant
watches are to be found at Bremont, in central Mayfair, which
has recently launched a series of six chronographs (bremont.
com). Not far from here are the windows of Harrys of London,
where calfskin shoes are impeccably modelled (harrysoflondon.
com). Sloane Street is home to the big names, from Dior to
Gucci, while Knightsbridge is worth a visit to the flagship Harvey
Nichols, the luxury department store, in a building from
1813. Bates is the realm of wonderful hats, gloves, cufflinks,
scarves and ties, to try on in the historic 1898 shop in Jermyn
Street (bates-hats.co.uk). For men, the day isn’t finished without
a ritual shave at Ted’s Grooming Room, also purveyors of colognes
and creams (tedsgroomingroom.com), or at Mayfair’s
Trumper, an old-time barber shop. For women, the shelves at
Ormonde Jayne, in Old Bond Street, are laden with pure and
rare essences (ormondejayne.com).
