METRA Marine lands in Turkey with the
agreement to distribute structural profiles
to build military and commercial vessels,
yachts and cruise ships, enhancing its
commercial presence abroad, in particular, in
the Mediterranean basin and in the Middle
East. In fact, the METRA Marine division
recently entered into a strategic commercial
agreement with Altek Metal Ticaret, a
major Turkish company that operates in
the aluminium components sector, for the
exclusive distribution of high-quality and
high technological content products able to
meet the advanced shipbuilding requirements
in Turkey. The agreement was signed in the
Company’s Headquarters near Istanbul, Mr.
Alberto Pomari, Sales Manager was present to
represent Altek METRA Industria, and Volkan
Erciyas, Executive Manager, Sebnem Gokten,
Sales Manager and Cemal Ulku, Logistics
Manager were present to represent Altek.
Turkey appears to be only mildly impacted by
the global economic recession, whereas, its
share of the shipbuilding market even appears
to be increasing. The privileged position
of the Bosporus has always favoured this
country. The opening up of new markets in
the Mediterranean basin are part of METRA’s
pre-established objectives and the subject
of specific commercial expansion strategies.

the possibility of performing mechanical
machining on bars up to 25 metres long with
the recent installation and implementation
of the modern FOM workstation at METRA

METRA Marine sbarca in Turchia con l’accordo
per la distribuzione di profilati strutturali per
la realizzazione di navi militari, commerciali,
yacht e navi da crociera, rafforzando così la
propria presenza commerciale all’estero, in
particolare nel bacino del Mediterraneo e in
Medio Oriente.
La divisione METRA Marine ha recentemente
firmato, infatti, uno strategico accordo commerciale
con Altek Metal Ticaret, importante
società turca del settore dei semilavorati in
alluminio, per la distribuzione in esclusiva di
prodotti di alta qualità e contenuto tecnologico
idonei a soddisfare le richieste della cantieristica
navale evoluta presente in Turchia.
Alla firma del contratto, presso la sede
dell’azienda vicino a Istanbul, erano presenti
da parte di METRA Industria Alberto Pomari,
Direttore Commerciale, e da parte di Altek
Volkan Erciyas, Executive Manager, Sebnem
Gokten, Sales Manager e Cemal Ulku, Logistics
Manager.
La Turchia appare solamente sfiorata dalla
attuale recessione economica
mondiale, mentre
sembra addirittura in crescita
la quota di mercato
delle costruzioni navali.
La posizione privilegiata
del Bosforo ha da sempre
favorito questo paese.

strategie di espansione commerciale.
La vastissima gamma dei prodotti METRA e

grazie alla recentissima installazione e messa
in opera presso METRA Componenti, del
moderno centro di lavoro FOM, completano

“DIDATTICA IN FABBRICA” (IN-PLANT
TUTORING) NUMBER ONE
The second year of the triennial “Didattica in
Fabbrica” (In-plant Tutoring) training project
will begin next September, implemented with
the experience gained and with a number of
novelties, as anticipated in last June’s press
conference.
The end of the 2008-2009 academic year
coincided with the end of the first year of the
“Didattica in Fabbrica” Project, in which 28
students from the “Luigi Galvani” Technical
College of Brescia worked together with
METRA. The final press conference of the first
experimental year was held last 12th June,
with the balance for this experience that, for
the first time in Italy, combines the school and
real productive workplace in a training cycle
lasting three years. The Project continues
up to the 2010 - 2011 academic year and aims
to introduce the students to the workplace
and to take full advantage of the technicaltechnological
and metallurgical vocation
of the Province of Brescia through specific
company training. The Project exploits the
possibility of using 20% of the total number
of hours available per year in the framework
of the law that disciplines school autonomy,
to introduce important subjects and topics
in the education curriculum in order to train
the students also from the working point
of view. The project’s innovative strength
is represented by the fact that it organises
the education-training plan by using the
METRA Group’s facilities, becoming part
of the Company’s real production activities
and by operating on cutting edge plants and
equipment. More specifically, the lessons
focused on the techniques involved in
studying the features and the processing of
non-ferrous materials, and in particular, of
aluminium.
As emphasised by Mr. Giampaolo Mantelli,
the former Councillor for Education of the
Province of Brescia, and by prof. Franco
Ferrante, Executive Manager of the Provincial
School Education Office of Brescia, in their
presentations in the press conference
organised in the Rodengo Saiano centre, the
project has anticipated the content of the
recent High School Reform, approved by the
Council of Ministers at its first reading.
METRA has worked together with the 28
participating students of the III, IV and V
classes (specialising in Mechanical, Electrical
Engineering and Information Technology),
with its own consolidated experience in the
extrusion sector, and with theoretical lessons
in the classroom and practical lessons “ad
personam” organised directly in the Rodengo
Saiano plant.
The students from the Galvani Technical
College entered the gates of METRA’s plant
in Rodengo Saiano (Bs) for eight weeks, one
week every month from October 2008 to May
2009, to attend the in-plant apprenticeship
course supervised by a tutor, and coordinated

A settembre si riparte con il secondo anno
del progetto di formazione triennale Didattica
in Fabbrica, implementato dell’esperienza acquisita
e di alcune novità, come anticipato nella conferenza
stampa dello scorso giugno.
La chiusura dell’anno scolastico 2008-2009
ha coinciso con quella del primo anno del
Progetto Didattica in Fabbrica, in cui 28 studenti
dell’Istituto Tecnico Industriale “Luigi
Galvani” di Brescia hanno lavorato a fianco
di METRA. Lo scorso 12 giugno si è tenuta la
conferenza stampa conclusiva del primo anno
di sperimentazione, con il bilancio di questa
esperienza che, per la prima volta in Italia,
affianca scuola e realtà produttive in un ciclo
formativo della durata di tre anni. La finalità
del progetto, che prosegue fino all’anno scolastico
2010- 2011, è quella di avvicinare i ragazzi
al mondo del lavoro e mettere a frutto
la vocazione tecnico-tecnologica e metallurgica
della provincia di Brescia attraverso la
specifica formazione aziendale. Il Progetto,
nell’ambito della legge sull’autonomia scolastica,
usufruisce della possibilità di utilizzare
il 20% del monte ore annuo per introdurre
nel piano di studi curriculare materie ed argomenti
importanti per la formazione degli
allievi anche dal punto di vista lavorativo. La
forza innovativa del progetto è organizzare il
piano didattico-formativo utilizzando le strutture
del Gruppo METRA, inserendosi nella reale
produzione dell’azienda e operando su
impianti e attrezzature all’avanguardia. Nello
specifico le lezioni hanno riguardato le tecniche
relative allo studio delle caratteristiche
e alla lavorazione dei materiali non ferrosi e
in particolare dell’alluminio.

the positive and profitable result of the
relationship with the students, and that this
relationship will continue with some of the
students up to the 2010-2011 academic year.
The students from the various classes
followed a differentiated theoretical and
practical training course, prepared by the
school, and coordinated by Mr. Aldo Albini,
and by the company: the class III students
furthered their knowledge of the production
cycle in the various dedicated areas, ranging
from procurement of the raw materials to
dispatching the products; whereas, the class
IV and class V students, after the primary
phase of acquiring skills, progressed to
developing specific projects always with the
support of a tutor or specialised personnel.
The press conference held at METRA’s
operating centre, represented the official
occasion to present a balance of this project’s
first experimental year that highlighted
the difficulty experienced in transferring
expertise between field experts and students,
promptly resolved Mr. Bruno Bertoli, the
Chairman of METRA, with the launch of a
trainers’ training programme starting from
the 2009-2010 academic year, and for which
ISFOR 2000 of Brescia has been involved.

stampa tenutasi presso la sede di Rodengo
Saiano, il progetto ha anticipato i contenuti
della recente Riforma delle Scuole Superiori,
approvata in prima lettura al Consiglio dei
Ministri.
METRA, con la propria consolidata esperienza
nel settore dell’estrusione, ha affiancato i
28 studenti delle classi III, IV e V partecipanti
(indirizzi di Meccanica, Elettrotecnica e Informatica),
con lezioni teoriche in aula e con
lezioni pratiche “ad personam” direttamente
nello stabilimento di Rodengo Saiano.
Per otto settimane, una al mese da ottobre
2008 a maggio 2009, i ragazzi dell’ITI Galvani
hanno varcato i cancelli dello stabilimento
METRA di Rodengo Saiano (Bs) per l’apprendistato
in fabbrica affiancati da tutor, sotto il
coordinamento dell’ing. Andrea Mafezzoni,
responsabile esecutivo del progetto per ME-
TRA, che ha ribadito quanto sia stato positivo
e proficuo il rapporto con gli studenti, con
alcuni dei quali proseguirà fino all’anno scolastico
2010-2011.
Gli studenti delle diverse classi hanno seguito
un percorso formativo teorico-pratico
differenziato, messo a punto dalla scuola,
con il coordinamento dell’ing. Aldo Albini, e
dall’azienda: quelli della classe III hanno approfondito
la conoscenza del ciclo produttivo
nelle varie aree dedicate, dall’approvvigionamento
delle materie prime alla spedizione
dei prodotti; gli studenti delle classi IV e V,
invece, dalla preliminare fase di acquisizione
delle competenze sono passati allo sviluppo
di specifici progetti sempre con l’affiancamento
di tutor o personale specializzato. La
conferenza stampa, tenutasi presso la sede
METRA, ha costituito l’occasione ufficiale per
presentare un consuntivo su questo primo
anno di sperimentazione del progetto, che
ha messo in luce la difficoltà nel trasferimento
di competenze fra addetti ai lavori e studenti,
prontamente risolta dal dr. Bruno Bertoli,
presidente METRA, con l’avvio, dall’anno
scolastico 2009-2010, di un programma di
formazione dei formatori, per il quale è stata
coinvolta l’ISFOR 2000 di Brescia.

Il manuale per allestitori e progettisti rappresenta
un facile mezzo di consultazione
per gli esperti e un testo utile per coloro
che si sono avvicinati da poco al mondo
dell’allestimento. Molti dei vari argomenti
sono stati trattati da esperti di ciascun settore,
come nel caso del capitolo 5 dedicato
all’alluminio, che è stato sviluppato da ME-
TRA attraverso i seguenti punti: generalità
(caratteristiche), produzione dell’alluminio
primario, leghe di alluminio, estrusione,
invecchiamento artificiale, finitura superficiale
(anodizzazione e verniciatura) e, in
conclusione, le schede sui profilati di allu-
minio nelle varie sezioni.
The manual for outfitters and designers
represents an easy consultation tool for
experts and a useful text for those new to
the world of fitting out. Many of the various
topics were presented by experts in each
sector, as in the case of chapter 5 dedicated
to aluminium that was developed by METRA,
based on the following aspects: General
(features), production of primary aluminium,
aluminium alloys, extrusion, artificial ageing,
surface finish (anodising and painting) and,
in conclusion, the data sheets for aluminium
profiles in the various sections.

THE EAST IS GROWING CLOSER AND CLOSER
Badran Pneumatic, with its operating centre
in Tehran, is a company that specialises in
the production of high technology systems
for industrial automation. The catalogue
of products offered is very extensive
and diversified. In particular, METRA’s
contribution is highlighted in terms of the
series of TX cylinders, complete with ISO
6431 and ISO 15552 certificates. These
cylinders have an innovative design and a
new technology in the production processes.
METRA was able to offer Badran Pneumatic
its own expertise in calibrating the cylinder
jackets, thanks to the long-term experience
in this field, since METRA is able to guarantee
H11 tolerances on the internal diameter and
a surface roughness RA of less than 0.6
micron after internal anodic oxidation. These
features are essential to avoid the rapid wear
of the sealing gasket and to guarantee long
processing cycles and the product’s long
useful working life. Today, METRA is one
of the few companies in the world capable
of offering exuded and calibrated jackets
with these features. The internationality of
METRA’s customers is a demonstration of this.
Badran Pneumatic, con sede a Tehran, è
un’azienda specializzata nella produzione di
sistemi ad alta tecnologia per l’automazione
industriale. Il catalogo dei prodotti offerti
è molto ampio e diversificato. Il contributo
METRA si evidenzia in particolare per la serie
di cilindri TX, con certificazioni ISO 6431 e
ISO 15552, dal design innovativo e una nuova
tecnologia nei processi produttivi. Grazie
alla lunga esperienza in questo campo, ME-
TRA ha potuto offrire a Badran Pneumatic la
propria competenza nella calibratura della camicia
del cilindro, potendo garantire tolleranze
H11 sul diametro interno ed una rugosità
superficiale RA inferiore agli 0,6 micron dopo
ossidazione anodica interna. Tali caratteristiche
sono indispensabili per evitare un rapido
logoramento della guarnizione di tenuta
e per garantire lunghi cicli di lavorazione e
di vita del prodotto. METRA è oggi una delle
poche aziende al mondo in grado di offrire
camicie estruse e calibrate con tali caratteristiche.
Prova ne è l’internazionalità della propria
clientela.
THE NEW RODENGO SAIANO RECEPTION HAS
BEEN INAUGURATED
The building for the new METRA Services
situated in the North side end of the Rodengo
Saiano headquarters was designed by
Cadeoarchitettura and by the Marino Pasotti
technical design office and is operational.
The building is characterised by a large fire
red aluminium canopy. Its geometric surface
receives continuous light and shadow effects,
which redefine the facade’s perspective
design and the visual impact of the building
structure. The new reception was constructed
with the aim of managing an optimized
flow of materials and goods moving outside
and inside the production site. The large
parallelepiped (45x18 m) with 5.50 m high
facades is lined with vertical aluminium strips
(300 mm wide) which were extruded by METRA
and based on a drawing prepared by its
designers. The entrance area is defined by the
canopy, with a rhomboid mesh structure
(sized 1x 1 m), 18 m long and 11 m wide. It
is constructed entirely of aluminium with
large structural elements which were also
extruded by METRA. The complete structure
was constructed taking into account not
only environmental sustainability and
energy-saving requirements, but also the
functionality and comfortable conditions of
the workers, with the aim of improving their
working conditions. The new building is
particularly innovative, also with reference
to the plant engineering solutions adopted.
The heating, thermal ventilation and cooling
systems/plants of some rooms,
are centralised and supplied by the waste
heat recovered from the foundry. A methane
gas generator has been installed to cover
the periods when the heat available from the
industrial cycle is limited.

È ormai operativo l’edificio dei nuovi Servizi
METRA, all’estremità nord del sito produttivo
di Rodengo Saiano, progettato da Cadeoarchitettura
e dallo studio tecnico Marino
Pasotti.
L’edificio, realizzato con lo scopo di gestire
una migliore movimentazione dei materiali
delle merci verso l’esterno e verso l’interno
del sito produttivo, è caratterizzato da una
grande pensilina rosso fuoco, la cui maglia
geometrica crea continui giochi di luce e ombra,
i quali ridefiniscono il disegno prospettico
della facciata e l’impatto visivo del retrostante
corpo di fabbrica. Il grande parallelepipedo
(45x18 metri) con facciate alte m 5,50
è rivestito da fasce verticali in alluminio (300
mm di larghezza), che sono state estruse da
METRA su disegno dei progettisti. Il particolare
disegno del profilo permette di rendere la
superficie dell’edificio omogenea, ma anche
vibrante di luce, creando continui chiaroscuri.
Lo spazio d’ingresso è definito dalla pensilina,
con struttura a maglia romboidale (di
1x 1 m), della lunghezza di 18 m e larghezza
di 11 m, realizzata completamente in alluminio
con elementi strutturali di grandi dimensioni,
anch’essi estrusi da METRA. La nuova
portineria racchiude molteplici funzioni, uniformate
dalla facciata esterna, ma caratterizzate
da differenti tipologie di illuminazione
interna: uffici con grandi superfici vetrate verso
l’esterno, un ambulatorio con apertura anche
verso l’esterno, ampi spogliatoi maschili
e femminili con luce uniforme e gradevole,
garantita dall’utilizzo di aperture vetrate
a shed sul tetto.
L’intera struttura è stata realizzata tenendo
conto delle esigenze di sostenibilità ambien-
tale e di risparmio energetico, ma anche di
funzionalità e comfort degli operai, con lo
scopo di migliorarne le condizioni lavorative.
Il nuovo edificio si presenta particolarmente
innovativo, anche per quanto riguarda l’impiantistica.
Gli impianti di riscaldamento, termoventilazione
e raffrescamento di alcuni ambienti,
sono centralizzati e alimentati dal calore
di recupero della fonderia. Per sopperire
ai periodi di scarsa disponibilità di calore dal
ciclo industriale è stato installato un generatore
a gas metano.
