Opposite page: the cockpit When we think of the word “epic”, we think of the poems of Ancient Greece that celebrated and preserved the memory of heroic feats and the identity of a particular civilisation. This makes the Epica 58 an aptly-named craft indeed: it is, after all, a celebration of the very values that have made Fiart Mare great, drawing both on tradition and passing on the philosophy of its builders. “This is our flagship product. The very apex of our output in terms of size and overall quality,” explains Annalaura di Luggo, Managing Director and Sales & Marketing Manager at the Campanian yard. “Just as we set a new entry level standard for the Fiat world with the Sea Walker 33, we have used the Epica 58 to define just exactly what the yacht that tops off our range should be.” Fiat Mare styled the 18-metre giving it an imposing, hard-to-mistake stance whilst still keeping it within the realms of many of the styling cues that have characterised its recent models. “It is the evolution of the 4Seven Genius and genuinely reiterates the characteristics inherent to the DNA of all Fiart models: lots of deck space and generous cockpits that can effortlessly jump from being sun pad to dining areas. We also did a very detailed reworking of the interior design. We put even more into it than usual,” he adds. At first glance, the most striking feature of the Epica 58 is the curved, almost circular shape of the main deck. There is a clear, clean division between hull and superstructure, particularly forward. Aft, the look is much more angular and the eye is drawn towards the cockpit. This is divided into two areas, the first, which is open air with no structural top but which can be covered thanks to an electric hideaway canopy in the hard top, and a U-shaped sofa that converts to either a sun pad or table. The crew cabin (with its own head and shower) is accessed a little further aft of this section. The covered part of the cockpit contains the steering position with separate and adjustable seats, a sofa and a galley. “There is, however, another layout option,” di Luggo points out. “The two areas can be separated by a sliding glass structure which runs from the carbon top to the cockpit floor.” The spaces below decks were developed by Francesco Guida and pica deriva dal greco antico epoς e significa parola, narrazione. Lo fa utilizzando gli elementi presenti nella tradizione e tramanda i cardini filosofici di chi l'ha costruita. «Rappresenta il nostro prodotto alto di gamma, l'apice della produzione per dimensione e qualità generale», spiega Annalaura di Luggo, Managing Director e Sales&Marketing Manager del cantiere campano. «Così come con il Sea Walker 33 abbiamo posto il nuovo standard d'ingresso nel mondo Fiart, con l'Epica 58 abbiamo definito come deve essere lo yacht che completa in alto la nostra produzione». Lo stile di questo 18 metri open, curato dalla Divisione progettuale Fiart Mare, è deciso e difficilmente confondibile, anche se non è affatto estraneo ai tratti somatici mostrati dai più recenti modelli nati qui nel golfo di Pozzuoli. «Rappresenta l'evoluzione del 4Seven genius. E funzionalmente enfatizza quelle caratteristiche che sono patrimonio genetico delle barche Fiart: tanto spazio all'aperto e pozzetti ampi, trasformabili velocemente a seconda delle necessità del momento: sia prendisole sia area pranzo. Ma abbiamo curato in modo approfondito anche l'interior design, con ancora più dedizione di quanta ne mettiamo di solito», chiarisce la manager. A un primo impatto visivo il suo profilo risalta per l'andamento curvo, quasi circolare, della coperta. L'estremo cavallino rovescio ben sposa il parabrezza e tutta la sovrastruttura che si chiude con il top erealizzato in carboresina. The owner’s stateroom is located forward: the head rest of its bed is angled aft in the broadest and most stable area of the hull. The Epica 58’s furnishings and finishings are well up to the standard that is expected for a yacht of this size – suppliers include the prestigious likes of Poltrona Frau, Gaggenau and Bose, in fact. The Epica 58 gets its engine power from two 70 hp Volvo Penta IPS-900 units. Its cleverly designed waterlines guarantee reliable performance and help cut fuel consumption. The result is that it makes 35 knots at full throttle but drinks just 180 litres an hour at cruising speed. What makes this achievement even more impressive, however, is how admirably comfortable the Epica 58 continues to feel under way. Just as the real reason that most people gathered to listen to the epic poems in the days of ancient Greece was to brighten the dark nights, the Epica 58 delivers that very same sense of brightness, comfort and security to its owners, both day and night. Epica si rifà alla tradizione Fiart di usare nomi mitici per i suoi modelli Epica is an example of the typical Fiart tradition of using mythical names for its models piatte, quasi a segnare con le geometrie il confine netto tra scafo e la tuga, soprattutto nella parte anteriore. Nella zona poppiera, invece, anche le murate e lo scafo incedono su spigoli più retti che guidano lo sguardo, focalizzandolo sul pozzetto. Due sono le aree su cui si articola, quella all'aperto e priva di copertura strutturale, ma riparabile grazie a una tenda elettrica a scomparsa nell'hard top, si sviluppa intorno a un divano a U trasformabile in prendisole o tavolo. Da questa zona, più a poppavia, si accede anche alla cabina marinaio (dotata di bagno con doccia). Nella zona coperta del pozzetto, invece trovano posto la postazione di guida con poltrone individuali e regolabili, un divano e una cucina. «Esiste anche un'altra opzione di layout», illustra di Luggo, «le due aree possono essere separate da una struttura apribile in cristallo che unisce il top con il pagliolato del pozzetto». Gli ambienti sottocoperta sono stati sviluppati da Francesco Guida e si sviluppano su tre locali notte tutti e tre con bagni e doccia separata. La cabina armatoriale è a prua e ha la testa del letto rivolta verso poppa, nella parte più larga e più stabile dello scafo. Gli arredi e le finiture sono all'altezza della dimensione della barca, con fornitori di prestigio come Poltrona Frau, Gaggenau o Bose. La propulsione è affidata a due Volvo Penta IPS-900 da 700 HP ciascuno. Grazie allo studio delle linee d’acqua dell'opera viva, garantiscono prestazioni affidabilità e consumi ridotti (35 nodi di velocità massima e un consumo di 180 litri all'ora per entrambi i motori a regime di crociera). E tutto con un comfort di navigazione mirabile. Insomma così come, al di là di tutto il resto, il motivo primo per cui ci si riuniva intorno al cantore dei poemi epici era quelli di avere la serata allietata, così l'Epica 58 è una barca e, come fine e principio del suo essere, deve fare andare per mare in modo sicuro e piacevole il suo armatore. Ecco, entrambe raggiungono lo scopo. 108
