con la loro vista quel tratto di strada che
count the times I’ve been spoilt for choice when selecting a souvenir of Capri,
especially a gift. Well, once you’ve had a look at what this wonderful shop has to offer,
“Ican’t
you will shout Eureka! I’ve found it!...” Curzio Malaparte used these words, from an
unpublished piece for the magazine Capri Segreta in 1954, to recommend a shop in Anacapri
actually called Eureka. Three generations later, from Clara Arcucci to her granddaughter Rita,
today it is Rita’s husband, Nunzio Pollicino who keeps the shop’s original style alive, along with
his children.
The ceramics workshop features an astonishing selection of articles it produces itself, pieces
inspired by Capri’s famous spots, climate, and folklore, which display impeccable taste and
sophistication in their interpretations of the island’s warmth and radiant beauty.
In fact,
Eureka’s artistic pieces and decorative elements,
such
as vases, panels, tiles, and Capodimonte
porcelain, grace not only the island’s most
exclusive homes but also those of the rich
and famous the world over. The brightly
coloured, highly refined ceramics on
show in Eureka’s windows mark
the starting point of any serious
shopper’s stroll down Via Orlandi,
the place to shop in Anacapri, and
they ‘decorate’ the way into the heart
of the island’s ‘second town’ with all
its history – not the least of which is
the tradition that the Pollicino family has
handed down for over fifty years, with its
precious artistic ceramics.
