IL CINEMA GIAPPONESE OGGI Osamu, del clan yakuza Tsukishima, nasconde una donna in fuga da alcuni dei suoi confederati, ignaro che sia Keiko, l’amante del suo padrino. Venendo a sapere che Tsukishima la sta trasformando in una drogata, decide di aiutarla, una decisione con conseguenze inevitabili sulle relazioni con chiunque intorno a lui, compresa la fidanzata Arimi e il suo patrono nella gang, Funamizu. “Ho avuto molte occasioni di fare film sui malviventi. Non che mi piacciano i malviventi, ma non intendo neanche trattare il tema in modo casuale, come se fosse ‘un lavoro come un altro’. It is not that I like mobsters, but neither do I intend to be casual about it, treating it as ‘just another job’. The thing about film is that it is not a venue for judging people; thus I always want to get behind the losers. I have made quite a nulber of films featuring losers, and this one happens o be a not-very-bright young man still in his twenties. The only virtue he may possess is that he is aware of his weaknesses. But that does not stop him from living at the expense of others. Kitamura Kazuki has been in four of my films, but this is the first time he has played the central character. Mr. Kitamura is blessed with courage.
