Mitsuko lavora in municipio.
Non è ansiosa di passare l’esame
di servizio civile per avanzare
nella carriera. Mitsuko ama il suo
lavoro perché le si adatta bene. Eji
è impressionato dal lavoro di
Mitsuko e le propone di unirsi a
lui nella sua impresa in rapida
espansione. Lui è divorziato da
un anno e sogna di trovare la
donna giusta. Quando Mitsuko
rifiuta la sua offerta di lavoro, le
chiede un appuntamento.

Mitsuko works at city hall. She
is not eager to take the civil service
exam and advance her career.
Mitsuko likes her job because it
suits her. Eiji is impressed with
Mitsuko’s work and asks her to
join him at his rapidly expanding
IT-company He is one year
divorced and dreams of finding
the right woman to be at his
side. When Mitsuko refuses his
offer of work, he asks her out on
a date.

vivere con forza significa essere
soddisfatti di se stessi,

dire che Mitsuko conduca una
guerra con una società dove la
competizione è la principale
attività e l’essere rispettati il
principale obiettivo. Ho cercato
un’attrice le cui maniere
dessero l’impressione che non
lusingasse mai gli uomini e al tempo stesso fosse una persona
totalmente naturale. In effetti, la sua forza disorienta
gli uomini che la conoscono. Mitsuko è assolutamente soddisfatta
del suo stile di vita, ma è proprio per questa sicurezza
che viene vista come una persona che non può essere

BIOGRAFIA
Manda Kunitoshi (Tokyo, 1956) ha diretto vari film in 8mm
mentre studiava alla Rikkyo University. Dopo la suola ha
lavorato come sceneggiatore e aiuto regista per Kurosawa
Kiyoshi. Ha inoltre diretto sceneggiati televisivi e video
industriali, oltre a scrivere di cinema su riviste come il mensile
giapponese “Image Forum”.

Developing the character of
Mitsuko with my wife, who cowote
the screenplay, we resolved
to depict an unusually strong
character. I believe that to live
strongly means to be content
with oneself without depending
on the approval of others. It
might be said that Mitsuko
wages war against a society
where competition is the ultimate
human activity and
respect the ultimate goal. In
casting the part, I sought an
actress whose style and manner
gives the impression that she
never flatters men and is at the
same time a totally natural person. Indeed, her strenght bewilders
the men who get to know her. Mitsuko has absolute confidence
in her own way of life; but that very confidence is the

BIOGRAPHY
Manda Kunitoshi (Tokyo, 1956) directed several 8mm films
while studying at Rikkyo University. After school, he worked
as a screenwriter and assistant director for Kurosawa Kiyoshi.
He also directed television dramas and industrial videos and
has written film criticism for journals such as the Japanese
monthly “Image Forum”.
