IL CINEMA GIAPPONESE OGGI
Tsuru Shimabukuru è una
cantante folk a Okinawa. Un
giorno le capita di trovare
una sceneggiatura dello scrittore
Mekaru. Decide di riportargliela,
e sulla strada incontra
strani personaggi come il
suo vicino zio Coser e il pittore
Yamagushiku. Nel frattempo
Mekaru ha perso tutti i
suoi soldi nelle slot machines
e si è immerso nello studio
delle formiche. Quando la
cantante arriva a casa sua, lui
è partito per Taiwan per cercare
una donna. Tsuru decide
di rimanere nell’appartamento
con suo figlio Henry e filmare
la sceneggiatura di
Mekaru. Mentre realizzano il
film, il figlio Henry non
distingue più tra realtà e finzione.
Un film realistico girato in
digital video che, come molti
lavori di Go Takamine, è
ambientato sull’isola di Okinawa. Lavora con attori locali
e musicisti che parlano nella loro lingua e cantano. Con
l’aiuto delle moderne attrezzature leggere, è stato possibile
realizzare il film col realismo di un documentario.
Questa tecnica, insieme all’impegno della gente di
Okinawa, ha consentito di realizzare il film con un budget
ridotto.
BIOGRAFIA
Go Takamine (Okinawa, 1948) iniziò a fare film mentre
studiava alla scuola d’arte di Kyoto. Il suo primo lungometraggio
fu proiettato al Festival di Berlino. Untamagiru,
il suo secondo lungometraggio, vinse il Premio Caligari a
Berlino nel 1989.

Protagonist Tsuru Shimabukuru
is a folk singer on Okinawa, who
one day happens to find the film
script Love’s Love by the writer
Mekaru. She decides to give it
back to him. On her way to see
Mekaru she meets strange people
like Uncle Coser, her neighbour
and the painter Yamagushiku. In
the meantime, Mekaru has lost all
his money on one-armed bandits
and has engrossed himself in
studying ants. When the singer
reaches his home, he has left for
Taiwan to look for a woman.
Tsuru decides to stay in the apartment
with her son Henry and to
film the script she founds. As they
are making the film, the son
Henry loses touch with the difference
between fiction and fact.
A realistic feature shot on digital
video that, like much of the
work of Go Takamine, is set on
the island of Okinawa. He
works with local actors and
musicians who speak their own language and sing. With the
aid of light modern equipment, it was possible to make the film
with the realism of a documentary. This technique, combined
with the dedication of the people of Okinawa, made a high
budget unnecessary.
BIOGRAPHY
Go Takamine (Okinawa, 1948) started making films when he
was studying at art school in Kyoto. His first feature was
screened at the Berlin Festival. Untamagiru, his second feature,
won the Caligari Award in 1989 in Berlin.
