THE MEDIA II PROGRAMME OF THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION SUPPORTED AUDIOVISUAL FESTIVALS
I festival cinematografici hanno in Europa un ruolo culturale,
sociale ed educativo particolarmente importante. Contribuiscono
direttamente o indirettamente alla creazione di un gran numero
di posti di lavoro nonché di un’utilissima rete di promozione e
distribuzione che rafforza la produzione dell’industria audiovisiva
europea. Nuovi artisti di talento hanno così la possibilità di far
conoscere le loro opere e il pubblico più giovane può venire a
contatto con la cinematografia europea.
Il programma Media II della Commissione Europea finanzia i
festival con l’intento di migliorare le condizioni di promozione e
distribuzione dei prodotti cinematografici europei e di favorire
l’accessibilità di produttori e distributori indipendenti al mercato
europeo e internazionale.
Questo progetto mira a rafforzare il legame fra il vasto pubblico
europeo e i film prodotti in Europa. Attualmente vengono finanziati
circa cinquanta festival cinematografici in tutta Europa,
negli Stati Membri così come nei paesi terzi che partecipano al
programma MEDIA II. Ogni anno, grazie alle attività di questi
festival e al finanziamento della Commissione Europea, vengono
presentate circa 10.000 produzioni cinematografiche a una platea
di circa due milioni di spettatori, testimoniando la varietà e la ricchezza
del cinema europeo.
La Commissione Europea sostiene inoltre la costruzione di reti o
strutture dei festival cinematografici su scala europea. In questo
contesto, le attività del Coordinamento Europeo dei Festival
Cinematografici contribuiranno alla cooperazione fra i festival e
allo sviluppo di progetti comuni sul cinema europeo.
Film festivals have a very important cultural, social and educative
role to play in Europe. They contribute to the creation of a large
number of direct and indirect jobs and provide a much needed promotion
and distribution network which enhances the production of
the European audiovisual industry. New talented creators are thus
given the opportunity to show their works and young audiences
may get better acquainted with European cinematography.
The MEDIA II Programme of the European Commission gives its
support to festivals with a view to improve the conditions of promotion
and distribution of European audiovisual works and the
access of independent producers and distributors to the European
and international market.
This action aims to reinforce the link between European public at
large and films produced in Europe. About sixty festivals across
Europe, in the Member States as well as in the third countries
participating in the MEDIA II Programme, are granted financial
support. Every year, thanks to the activities of these festivals and
to the support of the European Commission, about 10,000 audiovisual
works displaying the rich diversity of European cinematographies,
are presented to a public of about two million spectators.
Moreover, the Commission actively supports the networking of
film festivals on an European scale. Within this framework, the
activities of the European Coordination of Film Festivals will help
strengthen the cooperation between festivals and the development
of joint projects which will reinforce the positive impact of these
events on European cinema.
