I LOVE BEIJING

Dezi è un giovane tassista donnaiolo
di Pechino che per professione
incontra persone le
cui vite vanno e vengono fuori
dal suo orizzonte mentale. Ma
quando si tratta di donne il suo
orizzonte non ha limiti.
Seguendo il taxi di Dezi, siamo
trasportati in un viaggio attraverso
Pechino. Il vagabondare
di Dezi tra destinazioni e
donne è simile alla ricerca di
un’identità della sua città,
sospesa tra la sparizione di
antichi valori e un futuro incerto
nella Cina postmaoista.
“Nell’arco di dieci anni ho visto
Pechino, la mia città, attraversare
sorprendenti trasformazioni.
Ho iniziato a esplorarla
nel 1992, con il lungometraggio
For Fun, una commedia sulla
scomparsa degli stili di vita tradizionali.
Nel 1995, con On the
Beat e il suo umor nero, mi
sono concentrata sulla nuova
realtà emergente e sulle difficoltà
cui far fronte. In questo
nuovo film, la dimensione dei
cambiamenti che danno forma
alle nostre vite e le ansie della nuova generazione sono rappresentate
in forma di rapsodia, attraverso gli occhi di un giovane
e inquieto tassista. Se guardo indietro a questi tre film
non posso non considerarli come parti di una trilogia su tre
generazioni di pechinesi: i nonni (For Fun), i genitori (On the
Beat) e i figli (I Love Beijing).” (Ning Ying)
BIOGRAFIA
Ning Ying (Pechino, 1959) ha studiato alla Beijing Film
Academy, come i più anziani Chen Kaige, Li Shoahong e
Zhang Yimou. Nel 1982 ha seguito un corso al Centro
Sperimentale di Cinematografia di Roma e poi è stata assistente
di Bertolucci per L’ultimo imperatore. Ha vinto molti
premi con i suoi For Fun e On the Beat.

Dezi is a young philandering
Beijing taxi driver whose profession
allows him to people whose
lives come and go far beyond his
mental horizon. But when it
comes to women his horizon has
no limits. Following his taxi, we
are taken on a voyage across
Beijing. Dezi’s floating between
destinations and women is much
like Beijing’s own search for
individual identity between disappearing
ancient values and an
unknown future in post-Mao’s
China.
“In the brief span of just ten
years I have seen my city,
Beijing, going through astonishing
transformations. I first set
out to explore Beijing in 1992
with the feature For Fun, a comedy
about disappearing traditional
ways of life. In 1995, with
the black-humored On the Beat,
I focused on the emerging new
reality and the difficulty of coping
with it. In this new film, I
Love Beijing, the magnitude of
changes shaping our lives and
the anxieties of the new generation
are represented in a rhapsody form, through the eyes of a
young, restless taxi driver. When I look back at these three films
I cannot but regard them as completing a trilogy about three generations
of Beijingers: the grandfathers (For Fun), the parents
(On the Beat) and the sons (I Love Beijing).” (Ning Ying)
BIOGRAPHY
Ning Ying (Beijing, 1959) studied at the Beijing Film Academy,
simultaneously with older students such as Chen Kaige, Li
Shoahong and Zhang Yimou. In 1982 she attended a course at
the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome and later
worked as assistant director on Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Last
Emperor. She won many prizes for her films For Fun and On
the Beat.
