Dopo essere entrato nella
vita privata di Hitler con Eine
Freundschaft in Deutschland,
Romuald Karmakar focalizza
la sua attenzione su Heinrich
Himmler. Nella sua ricostruzione
il regista filma un discorso
segreto di tre ore e
mezzo che Himmler, allora
ministro degli Interni del
Terzo Reich e Capo delle SS,
pronunciò il 4 ottobre 1943
davanti a 92 generali.
Basandosi su una registrazione
audio dell’epoca,
Karmakar gira il film in un
giorno con quattro macchine
da presa digitali. Das
Himmler-Projekt presenterà
alla fine solo 50 tagli per una
durata di tre ore. Il “discorso
di Posen” giustifica lo sterminio
degli ebrei e lo sfruttamento
e lo sterminio degli
“slavi” e intesse l’apologia
del furore nazista in tutto il
suo orrore. Himmler vi illustra
anche i suoi progetti per l’avvenire: le SS hanno il
dovere di affermarsi come un’organizzazione chiave in
Europa, a garanzia dei confini dell’Impero “germanico”
che si estenderanno sino agli Urali “e un giorno anche
molto oltre”.

After exploring Adolf Hitler’s
private life in Eine Freundschaft
in Deutschland,
Romuald Karmakar focuses his
attention on the Nazi leader
Heinrich Himmler. For this
reconstruction, he films a secret
three and a half hour speech that
Himmler, then the Third Reich’s
Minister of the Interior and
Chief Commandant of the SS,
gave to 92 of his generals on the
4th October, 1943. Taking a contemporary
recording as a basis
for the film, Karmakar shot it in
a day, with four digital cameras.
Das Himmler-Projekt has only
50 cuts over its three hour running
time. The “Posen Speech”
justifies the extermination of the
“Slavs”, and is a horrifying
apologia for Nazi frenzy.
Himmler sketches out his future
projects: the SS has the duty to
establish itself as a key organisation
in Europe, guarantor of the
“Germanic” Empire which will
extend as far as the Urals, “and one day much further”.
