Mans e Roro hanno venti
anni e sono amici per la pelle.
Entrambi lavorano al dipartimento
forestale. Roro è di
origini arabe e, all’insaputa
dei genitori, ha una ragazza
svedese. È parecchio tempo
che vorrebbe presentarla ai
suoi, ma non si decide.
Proprio quando è pronto per
questo passo, la famiglia ha
combinato il suo matrimonio:
vogliono che sposi una
ragazza di origini libanesi,
che è a sua volta contraria.
Ciò nonostante, fanno un
patto, perché lei corre il pericolo
di essere rimandata in
Libano.
Jalla! Jalla! è il film di debutto
di uno dei nuovi talenti del
cinema svedese, Josef Fares,
che ha solo 23 anni. Ha realizzato
un’incantevole commedia in cui amore, sesso e differenze
culturali interpretano i ruoli principali e con la quale
vuole far felice il pubblico. Jalla! Jalla!, che in arabo significa
qualcosa come “Sbrigati!” o “Forza!”, è caratterizzato da
un ritmo giovanile. Gli “inseguimenti” sono messi in scena
con visibile piacere e il delizioso cast (che include il padre
e il fratello del regista) si adatta senza sforzo all’approccio
leggero al tema dell’amore in tempi di integrazione.

Mans and Roro are in their
twenties and best friends. They
both work for the parks department.
Roro is of Arab origin
and, without his parents knowing,
has a Swedish girlfriend.
He has been planning to introduce
her to his family for a long
time, but doesn’t get round to it.
Just when he is ready to, the
family has arranged a marriage
for him. They want him to
marry a Lebanese-Swedish girl,
who doesn’t want to marry him
either. Yet they make a pact,
because otherwise she is in danger
of being sent back to
Lebanon.
Jalla! Jalla! is the debut film by
one of the new talents of
swedish film, Josef Fares, who
is only 23. He has made a
charming comedy in which
love, sex and cultural differences play leading roles and with
which he wants to make his audience happy, as he puts it.
Jalla! Jalla!, that in Arab means something like “Hurry up”
or “Come on”, is characterised by its youthful pace. The
“chases” have been set with visible pleasure and the charming
cast (including the director’s brother and father) fits in seamlessly
with the light-hearted approach to the subject: love in
times of integration.
BIOGRAFIA
Josef Fares (1977) si spostò nel 1987 dal Libano a
Stoccolma con la sua famiglia. Ha iniziato a girare film
in video a 15 anni, realizzandone più di 50. All’età di 21
anni è diventato il più giovane studente di sempre
ammesso alla Dramatiske Institutet Film School di
Stoccolma, dove ancora studia.

Josef Fares (1977) moved with his family from Lebanon to
Stockholm in 1987. At the age of 15, he became the youngest
student ever at the Dramatiske Institutet Film School, were he
is still studying.
