umani prendiamo ormai praticamente<br />
per assodata.<br />
Invece la sensazione di movimento<br />
laterale è storicamente<br />
un fenomeno decisamente<br />
più recente, reso possibile<br />
dalle invenzioni <strong>del</strong>la nostra<br />
epoca meccanica. Dalle portantine<br />
ai carretti tirati dai<br />
cavalli, fino ai treni e alle<br />
automobili, la nostra percezione<br />
<strong>del</strong>la velocità è cresciuta<br />
sempre più rapidamente. Ora<br />
che l’informatizzazione <strong>del</strong>le<br />
immagini ha assunto il controllo<br />
grazie a computer sempre<br />
più potenti, ha inizio uno<br />

BIOGRAFIA<br />
Sato Yoshinao si è laureato all’università di Tsukuba. Ha<br />
lavorato recentemente ad animazioni fotografiche. Con<br />
Papers (1994) vinse un premio al Philip Morris Art Award<br />
nel 1996, con Variation for Movements (1996), il Premio<br />
Speciale <strong>del</strong>la Giuria al Festival di Yubari nel 1998, con<br />
Trucks (1999), un Gran Premio al III Japan Digital Art<br />
Contest.<br />

The sensation of forward movement<br />
is something that we walking<br />
humans pretty much take<br />
for granted these days. The<br />
sense of lateral motion, however,<br />
is historically a rather more<br />
recent phenomenon, made possible<br />
by the inventions of our<br />
mechanical age. From palanquins<br />
and horse-drawn carts to<br />
trains and cars, our perception<br />
of speed has grown increasingly<br />
faster. Now with visual information<br />
taken over by increasingly<br />
powerful computers, a<br />

BIOGRAPHY<br />
Sato Yoshinao graduated from<br />
University of Tsukuba/Master’s<br />
Program in Art and design. Recently, he has been working on<br />
photographic animations. Papers (1994) won a prize at Philip<br />
Morris Art Award 1996. Variation for Movements (1996)<br />
won Special Jury Prize at Yubari International Fantastic<br />
Adventure Film Festival 1998. Trucks (1999) won Grand<br />
