utilizzando immagini ma
non come in un video musicale
o come fa un VJ che
combina immagini solo per il
gusto della musica. Neanche
è simile alla musica visuale
fatta di immagini atratte e
animazione, o ai film in computer
grafica dove immagini
e musica sono valutate allo
stesso livello in modo da rendere
comprensibili le immagini.
Questo film è nato dal
desiderio di creare un luogo
dove l’immagine registrata
nel fotogramma includendo
dialogo ed effetti sonori – in
altrt parole sia l’aspetto visivo
che quello musicale (il
ritmo del film) – fossero trattati

BIOGRAFIA
Harada Ippei (Tokyo, 1960) è attivo come VJ. Ha ottenuto
una menzione all’Image Forum Festival nel 1987 con
Continuous Rectangles. To Sum Up è stato nominato per il
premio Dragons and Tigers al Festival di Vancouver.

using images but unlike a
music video or video jockey who
arranges images purely for the
sake of the music. Nor is it similar
to the visual music made by
abstract images and animation
or computer graphic films
where pictures and music are
valued at the same level in order
to make the images understandable.
This film was born out of
the desire to create a place where
the picture recorded in the
frame including dialogue and
sound effects, in other words,
both the image aspect and the
musical aspect (the rhythm of
the film), were treated equally.”

BIOGRAPHY
Harada Ippei (Tokyo, 1960). Prizes: Honorable Mention at
Image Forum Festival 1987 (Continuous Rectangles). To
Sum Up (1996-’98) nominated for Dragons and Tigers Award
in the 17th Vancouver International Film Festival. He is active
as a VJ.
