Italian
market success
The recent signing of a contract
with Rizziconi Energia (EGL), for
the turnkey supply of an 800
MWe combined cycle at the site
of the same name in Reggio
Calabria, starts off 2006 on a
good foot, in line with 2005,
which reported a significant
improvement in all financial and
management indicators.
The Rizziconi contract (EGL
previously placed an order with
the company for the Sparanise
plant, now at an advanced stage
of construction) is worth a total
Euro 490m, covering not only the
turnkey supply of the plant, but
also maintenance and technical
assistance.
The configuration of the plant,
similar to Sparanise, comprises
two 400 MW units in a multi-shaft
configuration, each with a
V94.3A2 gas turbine, a heat
recovery steam generator and a
140 MW steam turbine.
This new order confirms the
confidence placed in Ansaldo
Energia by EGL electricity group,
one of the Italian liberalised
energy market’s leading
operators, which has plans to
achieve total installed generating
capacity of more than 2000 MW
by 2009.
But Ansaldo Energia also reported
other major successes on the
Italian market in 2005. Two orders
worthy of special mention are from
Turin’s Azienda Energetica
Metropolitana to repower unit two
as a combined cycle and from
Tirreno Power for the
transformation of unit three at the
Napoli Levante power station.
The Turin AEM contract follows
the acquisition of a 14-year service
contract to maintain set three,
which was installed by Siemens
and Fiat Engineering. Ansaldo
Energia bid for the tender as lead
company in the Temporary
Grouping set up with Fata and
Demont, in which the three
partners have stakes respectively
of 58%, 28% and 14%.
The contract, worth about Euro
180m, was signed after a fierce
battle with Siemens Italy.
The supply covers the installation
of a 279 MWe, V94.3A4 gas
turbine and relative alternator, the
installation of a heat recovery
steam generator fed by exhaust
gas from the gas turbine, the
replacement of the existing steam
turbine alternator and the
replacement of the actual heat
production system for the district
heating network, in such a way as
to deliver the maximum thermal
power possible in a co-generation
cycle, equivalent to 260 MWt.
Construction is due to start in late
July 2006, with delivery scheduled
for late September 2008.
