The significance of Prof. Zurab Sarjveladze’s etymologies for Kartvelology
is invaluable. In our view, Etymological Dictionary of Kartvelian
Languages compiled together with a German colleague Heinz Fenrich,
numbering 815 pages and containing more than 350 archetypes, is a certain
etymological encyclopedia and a new stage from the viewpoint of
linguocultural study.
The presented article is an attempt to demonstrate the method and style of
the talented scholar. Rich illustrative material is offered in order to show the
contribution of Zurab Sarjveladze to Kartvelology.
