Drosselklappensensoren
Throttle Position Sensors
Grundlegende Eigenschaften
Drosselklappensensoren sind an der Drosselklappenachse befestigt und
überwachen den Öffnungswinkel der Drosselklappe.
Aus den gewonnenen Informationen errechnet die Motorelektronik
die Kraftstoffmenge, die in Abhängigkeit weiterer Faktoren (z.B.
Motortemperatur, Luftdruck, Drehzahl) eingespritzt wird.
Drosselklappensensoren gibt es in verschiedenen Bauformen:
Drosselklappenschalter
Key characteristics
Throttle position sensors are connected to the throttle-valve spindle and
control the angular aperture of the throttle valve.
The engine management system receives this information and calculates
the fuel quantity to be injected taking into account factors such as the
engine temperature, air pressure, rate of revolutions.
There are different types of throttle position sensors:
Throttle Position Switches
Within the throttle position switch are located two switches that may be
operated by a gear-shifting gate.
Via these two switches the engine management system detects if the
engine is idling or under full load (idling in case of closed throttle valve,
full load in case of a fixed angular aperture).
If the full load switch is closed the quantity of fuel injected is increased.
Throttle Position Potentiometer
In this case the angular aperture of the throttle valve is detected by a variable
resistance. As there is a fixed ratio between the angular aperture and
the resistance value, the engine management system can detect at any
time the angle of the throttle valve. Furthermore, the angular velocity (i.e.
the time it takes the throttle valve to change its angle) is also registered.
If the angle is changed quickly, e.g. if the accelerator is pressed sharply,
more fuel is injected via the engine management system.
Possible malfunctions
Throttle position sensors react to any change of the accelerator and
thereby are subject to mechanical wear and tear. In addition, they are
susceptible to contamination by oil film, dust and dampness.
Rubber seals will minimise the risk of damages, but other factors within
the engine compartment (extreme temperature variations, vibrations, oil,
cleansing agents etc.) may cause the seals to become brittle. This following
malfunctions may occur when using throttle position sensors:
 Difficulty in starting the engine.
Change in the rate of revolutions, even though the setting of the
accelerator has not changed.
 Increased fuel consumption.
Spluttering of the engine if the setting of the accelerator has changed.
