La Murrina is an important showroom situated
in Como, at 74 Via Milano, which is completely
dedicated to glass design.
The company has consolidated this trend
through the collaboration with important
designers of the contemporary art-world.
As a consequence the exibition rooms have
been lately modified in order to place the new
collection of light objects which represent an
important turning point in the history of the
company. The new selected pieces have been
intentionally shown in a simple and sober
framework so that they can appear in all their
beauty.
Turnover, Princess, Crazy and Esibizione are
all objects in which the successful use of the
entire range of orange color can be admired.

Nessi&Majocchi
Ottant’anni di edifici, monumenti famosi nel mondo,
costruzioni preziose come gioielli. Ottant’anni di fatiche,
sfide e grandi successi. In poche parole, ottant’anni di
Nessi&Majocchi. Una storia comasca nata il 30 giugno
1926 dalla voglia di impresa del fondatore Angelo Majocchi
che, insieme con Venanzio Nessi e Severino Tagliasacchi,
fondarono l’azienda di costruzioni che – non solo
metaforicamente – ha realizzato mezza Como e molto di
più. Oggi, dopo quasi cinquant’anni al vertice dell’impresa
in gran parte condivisi con il fratello Mario e in ultimo con il
figlio Angelo, negli occhi del figlio del fondatore, Giampiero
Majocchi, classe 1930, brilla ancora una luce orgogliosa
per i tanti traguardi tagliati nel tempo.
«Ci ha sempre guidati l’amore per questo lavoro – ricorda
Majocchi – Costruire richiede impegno, spirito di sacrificio,
professionalità. Soltanto con queste doti, mantenute
nel tempo da tutti coloro che hanno fatto la storia
dell’azienda, si possono creare e poi rivivere nel tempo le
opere realizzate». Tantissimi i segni tangibili lasciati dalla
Nessi&Majocchi sul territorio. Impossibile non citare la
prima grande realizzazione, destinata a scavarsi un posto
nella storia. «Tra gli anni ’30 e ’40 c’è un’opera che svetta
– ricorda Giampiero Majocchi – il Monumento ai Caduti di
Como, un’opera complicatissima, il cui completamento fu

sweat, challenges and great success. To sum up, eighty
years of Nessi&Majocchi. A Como story born on 30 th
June 1926 from the spirit of enterprise of founder Angelo
Majocchi who, together with Venanzio Nessi and Severino
Tagliasacchi, founded the construction company which
– not just metaphorically – built half of Como and much
more.
Today after almost 50 years at the head of the firm
largely shared with his brother Mario, and lately with the
son, Angelo, the founder’s son Giampiero Majocchi (b.
1930) still has that light of pride in his eyes at all they’ve
achieved over the years. “Our love for this work has
always been our guiding light”, reminisces Majocchi.
“Building requires committment, a spirit of sacrifice and
being businesslike. Only with these qualities nurtured
over time by all those who have made the firm’s story
possible can construction work be executed and then
re-lived over time”. And Nessi&Majocchi have indeed
left their tangible mark on the area. Mention must be
made of their first great undertaking, which went down in
history. “Between the 30s and 40s one job stands out”,
reminisces Giampiero. “Como’s War Memorial, a highly

però una grande soddisfazione». Il mondo, l’Italia, Como
andavano verso la guerra, ma intanto l’impresa iniziava a
cambiare il volto del capoluogo lariano, con la costruzione
del Mercato Coperto, le demolizioni della vecchia Cortesella
sulla scia dell’ordine urbanistico voluto da Mussolini per
le città del futuro, e infine il nuovo Palazzo dei Sindacati a
ridosso della Casa del Fascio. «Ma è il Dopoguerra, almeno
fino alla metà degli anni ’60, il periodo del grande sviluppo
– sottolinea Majocchi – Si va dalla realizzazione della
fontana di viale Geno, al restauro di Villa Saporiti destinata
a ospitare l’amministrazione provinciale, alla costruzione
di quartieri veri e propri come Sagnino e Prestino. Erano
gli anni in cui l’edilizia popolare per i ceti più deboli arrivò
a toccare il 25% di tutta l’edilizia residenziale, elemento su
cui anche oggi andrebbe fatta una riflessione importante».
L’azienda, intanto, cresce, si espande, costruisce in tutta
complex but very satisfying piece of work”. The world
(hence Italy and Como) was on the brink of war, but in the
meantime the company began to change the face of the
provincial capital through the construction of the Covered
Market, the demolition of the old Cortesella in the wake
of the urban order instigated by Mussolini for the towns
of the future, and last of all the new Palazzo dei Sindacati
behind the Casa del Fascio. “But the postwar years, at
least up till the mid 60s, was the building boom period”,
stresses Majocchi. “The fountain in Viale Geno was built,
Villa Saporiti was restored later destined to house the
provincial administrative offices, and the construction of
actual housing estates undertaken such as Sagnino and
Prestino. These were the years when council housing for
low-income families accounted for 25% of all residential
building, a fact which merits consideration even today”.

la provincia comasca e nel Lecchese. Il progresso della
Nessi&Majocchi e quello di Como si fondono in opere
simbolo: il grattacielo di Camerlata, il nuovo monoblocco
dell’Ospedale Sant’Anna (1970), la tangenziale di Como con
la copertura del Cosia (1973), l’impianto della Comodepur
(1980), la nuova Dogana di Brogeda (1991). «Ma
soprattutto – evoca con orgoglio Giampiero Majocchi – il
centro espositivo di Villa Erba, opera sofferta, ambiziosa,
difficile. Ma bellissima, tanto da farmi commuovere
all’inaugurazione». Con tanto passato alle spalle, il futuro
potrebbe anche fare paura. «Invece no – chiude con un
sorriso Majocchi – il futuro va costruito».
Meanwhile the firm grew and expanded as it built all
over the provinces of Como and Lecco. The progress of
Nessi&Majocchi and that of Como are forged together in
symbolic works of construction: Camerlata’s skyscraper,
the new mono-block of the Sant’Anna Hospital (1970),
the Como ringroad and the covering over of the River
Cosia (1973), the Comodepur Plant (1980) and the new
Brogeda Customs complex (1991).
“But above all”, Giampiero Majocchi points out
with pride, “the Villa Erba Exhibition Centre which
was a fraught, ambitious, tough job. But beautiful
– so much so that I got quite emotional at the
inauguration”.
With such an awesome past, the future might
seem a bit daunting. “Oh no it doesn’t”,
Majocchi winds up with a smile, “the future has
to be built!”

Una visita rapida e informale, il tempo di gustarsi una
bruschetta pane, olio, origano e pomodoro in piazza San
Fedele a Como, oppure un soggiorno un po’ più lungo, nella
casa dell’amico George o, infine, un’autentica fuga, con
tanto di moglie e figlio fino a Bellagio. La primavera 2007
è stata una stagione record per i Vip sul Lario e l’estate si
preannuncia altrettanto ricca di sorprese. Aveva iniziato
la bella Hilary Swank, attrice statunitense premio Oscar
per “Million Dollar Baby”, in marzo, in compagnia di una
decina di amici, a farsi notare in una delle piazze più belle
e caratteristiche di Como, San Fedele. «Sono qui per una
breve vacanza, conosco da tempo Como», aveva spiegato
gustandosi una bruschetta. Tra i suoi accompagnatori anche
il fidanzato John Campisi. Hilary è stata nel recente passato
anche ospite di Villa Fontanelle, a Moltrasio, di proprietà della
famiglia Versace, che ha disegnato alcuni splendidi vestiti
per l’attrice.
La settimana del Festival di Cannes è stata un autentico
viavai di star. Ha iniziato naturalmente il bel George Clooney,
che da buon padrone di casa è giunto a Villa l’Oleandra con
qualche giorno di anticipo. Il tempo per aprire le finestre
e assicurarsi che le nuove siepi garantissero la privacy
anche dal campetto di basket dove mister Ocean’s Thirteen
si diverte in appassionanti uno contro uno con amici e
bodyguard. Primo ospite di Clooney è stato l’attore di colore
Don Cheadle, candidato all’Oscar con “Hotel Rwanda” ad
arrivare a Laglio con tutta la famiglia.
Il suo passatempo preferito? Guardare la figlia pescare con
un retino i cavedani del Lario. Il bottino pare sia stato molto
scarso. Cheadle, tra i protagonisti della nuova pellicola con
la band di Danny Ocean, ha diviso l’ala della villa con un’altra
grande star, Matt Damon. Matt, molto amico di Clooney,
al pari di Brad Pitt è un habitué del lago di Como. La sua

George’s house, or last of all a real escape together
with wife and son to Bellagio. Spring 2007 was a
record season for VIPs on the Lario and summer
promises to be just as full of surprises. It all kicked
off with the lovely US Oscar winner (for ‘Million
Dollar Baby’) Hilary Swank back in March with
about 10 friends who was spotted in one of the most
beautiful and typical squares in Como, San Fedele.
“I’m here for a short vacation; I’ve known Como for
some time”, she explained munching a bruschetta.
Her boyfriend John Campisi came along too. Hilary
was recently a guest at Villa Fontanelle in Moltrasio
owned by the Versace family who have designed
some beautiful clothes for the actress.
Cannes Festival week was really star-studded. It all
began of course with handsome George Clooney, who
being the perfect host, turned up in advance at Villa
l’Oleandra: (you need time to air the house and check
out the privacy rating of the new hedges including
the view from the basketball court where Mr Ocean’s
13 has fun in exciting one-to-one’s against friends
and bodyguards). Clooney’s first guest was actor Don
Cheadle, Oscar nominee with ‘Hotel Rwanda’, who
turned up in Laglio with the whole family. What’s his
favourite pastime? Watching his daughter fishing
chud with a net (apparently they weren’t biting).
Cheadle co-starring in the new movie with Danny
Ocean’s band shared a wing of the villa with another
great star, Matt Damon.
Matt, Clooney’s great friend on a par with Brad Pitt, is
hooked on Lake Como. He’s crazy about motorboats,
and George provides one for unforgettable trips to

passione è il motoscafo, che l’amico George gli mette a
disposizione per indimenticabili tour tra Bellagio, Varenna e
Menaggio.
Cappellino da baseball e occhialoni, Matt ha sempre l’aspetto
di un adolescente e riesce così a sfuggire all’obiettivo dei
paparazzi e alle fan troppo insistenti.
La Swank, Clooney, Cheadle e Damon, insieme farebbero
la fortuna di qualsiasi produttore, pensate però a quale film
sul Lago di Como si sarebbe potuto girare con un quarto
grande protagonista del calibro di Robert De Niro. Proprio
il 64enne De Niro ha scelto la tranquillità del Lago di Como
per un’autentica fuga dalla vita da star. Barba incolta,
jeans, camicia e cappellino, sperava di confondersi tra
i turisti tra Villa D’Este, a Cernobbio, e Villa Serbelloni, a
Bellagio. Difficile non accorgersi, però, di uno dei più grandi
attori di tutti i tempi, mentre prende un aperitivo con la
moglie Grace e il figlio Elliot. Qualcosa in realtà è riuscito a
disturbare l’attore, un bell’acquazzone pomeridiano mentre
in motoscafo si stava recando a Villa Melzi D’Eril, a Bellagio.
Niente di male. Robert, quando tornerai l’anno prossimo
penseremo a farti trovare soltanto giornate di bel tempo. Il
cast del film del Lago di Como intanto è al completo. Non
sono escluse nei prossimi giorni partecipazioni straordinarie
e brevi cameo, le porte del Lago delle Star sono sempre
aperte.

Swank, Clooney, Cheadle and Damon would be a
dream team in any producer’s books; but just think
what kind of film on Lake Como could have been
made with a fifth great star of the calibre of Robert
De Niro. None other than 64-year-old De Niro chose
the peace and quiet of Lake Como to get right away
from the limelight. With his unkempt beard, wearing
jeans, a T-shirt and cap, he’d hoped to remain anonymous
by mixing with tourists between Villa D’Este in
Cernobbio and Villa Serbelloni in Bellagio.
But you can’t help spotting one of the greatest actors
of all time having an aperitif with his wife Grace and
his son Elliot. Something in effect did manage to upset
the actor: a heavy afternoon shower, while he was
cruising along in his motorboat to Villa Melzi D’Eril
in Bellagio. Never mind Robert, when you’re back
next year we’ll make sure you get fine weather all the
time. Meanwhile the cast of the Lake Como movie is
complete. But over the next few days you can’t rule
out special appearances or short cameo roles – the
doors of the Lake of the Stars are still open!

Un incontro ravvicinato e armonico tra due modi
esclusivi di intendere lo spostarsi sulla strada e

quest’anno la terza edizione del connubio tra il Centro
Porsche Como e Cranchi organizzato al Nausika
Marine Center di Colico, nell’Alto Lago di Como.
L’evento, fortemente voluto da Marco Teli, vulcanico e
creativo titolare del Centro Porsche Como, non è stato
soltanto un’esposizione di gioielli a quattro ruote e di
raffinati yacht. Gli invitati hanno potuto cimentarsi in
emozionanti prove dinamiche su strada e sul lago, con
le ultime novità firmate Porsche e gli eleganti modelli
made in Cranchi.
Difficile dire se sia maggiormente emozionante tagliare
l’aria al volante delle leggendarie coupé e cabrio
sportive, dei Suv della casa tedesca, oppure solcare
le onde al timone di uno yacht al top del settore per
prestazioni e design, ideale per le acque dei laghi e per
il Mediterraneo.
I due prestigiosi marchi nel settore dei beni di lusso
hanno sviluppato una manifestazione ancora una volta
raffinata ed elegante, ma allo stesso tempo dinamica
e vitale.
Per i clienti Porsche e Cranchi, sono stati due giorni
in cui cimentarsi in test drive alla guida di autovetture
Porsche messe a disposizione dallo stesso Centro
Porsche Como come dei veri e propri piloti e allo
stesso tempo godersi in un’atmosfera incantevole

A close and harmonious encounter between two
exclusive approaches to moving along roads
and over water. This year too the third edition
of the union of the CentroPorsche Como and
Cranchi held at the Nausika Marine Center in
Colico (at the top end of Lake Como) was highly
successful.
The event so strongly endorsed by Marco
Teli – the passionate and creative owner of
the Centro Porsche Como – was not just an
opportunity to show off 4-wheel gems and
sophisticated yachts: guests were able to take
part first hand in exciting, dynamic trials on both
roads and the waters of the lake, in the very
latest Porsche models and the elegant ‘Made in
Cranchi’ models.
It’s a moot point whether it’s more exciting
to slice through the air behind the wheel of a
legendary coupé or a sporty soft top made by
the German company Suv, or else cut through
waves at the helm of a top-performance,
superlatively designed yacht just right for lakes
or the Meditterranean.
These two prestigious names in the luxury slot
at the top of the market produced a showcase
that was even more refined and elegant than
in the past, but which was also dynamic and
vibrant. Porsche and Cranchi customers had
two whole days to test-drive Porsche cars
supplied by the Centro Porsche Como like real
racing drivers, as well as enjoy the delighful
atmosphere of the Lario lakescape on board
a Cranchi Yacht. A unique event of its kind
featuring two unforgettable leading actors
and Lake Como with its roads winding round
it, before they climb up into the mountains
that provide a backdrop. A successful event
which has probably paved the way for fourth
edition – another weekend not to be missed by
lovers of sporting spirit, elegance and comfort.

“Forum Como” è il progetto di riqualificazione dell’ ”Ex Ticosa”, l’area
industriale in cui sorgeva la celebre Tintostamperia Comense, che
ha chiuso i battenti nel 1982. L’area di 41.800 mq in cui sorgerà il
complesso multifunzionale sviluppata da Multi Development-C Italia
ospiterà strutture residenziali, negozi di vicinato, medie superfici,
servizi pubblici e per le imprese, un hotel /centro servizi, un centro
fitness e un museo. Il progetto pone fine a oltre 20 anni di degrado
per una zona strategica di Como, tagliata fuori dal tessuto cittadino
circostante. Il punto focale del masterplan progettato dallo studio di
architetti olandesi T+T Design consisteva proprio nella necessità di
eliminare questa frattura. La soluzione innovativa individuata prevede
l’interramento dell’asse viario di via Grandi, la principale arteria di
collegamento tra il centro e la periferia di Como.
Lo schema progettuale sfrutta le caratteristiche del terreno per
creare una sovrapposizione di suoli su tre livelli, un parco pubblico
di 22.000 mq a livello di superficie, con piazze e percorsi pedonali.
I negozi e i servizi si troveranno al primo livello mentre le abitazioni
al livello superiore. Abbondanti parcheggi interrati e posti auto in
superficie consentiranno un agevole accesso all’area.
“Forum Como” si armonizzerà con le eccellenze architettoniche
della città rispettando gli stili e i materiali tradizionali di Como, senza
rinunciare alle più avanzate soluzioni di design negli esterni e negli
interni. L’apertura è prevista nel 2011.
“Forum Como” creerà un nuovo distretto cittadino grazie allo
sviluppo di un’area vivibile 24 ore su 24 e sarà un volano di sviluppo
anche per le zone adiacenti. Abbondanti aree verdi, spazi pubblici
e piazze collegate da vie pedonali creeranno un mix stimolante tra i
classici borghi italiani e gli standard europei di centro storico.

“Forum Como” is a project regenerating the “Ex-Ticosa”, a former
industrial area in the city of Como. It is a 41,800 mq multi-functional
project combining residential, retail, a hotel / service centre, public
and tertiary services, a fitness centre, and a museum.
This project put an end to over 20 years of decay for an area located
in the heart of Como and yet cut off from the city. The key-point of
the master plan by the Netherland based architects T+T Design was
exactly a new way to remove this cut. A truly innovative solution was
found by laying underground Via Grandi, the main artery linking the
Como centre to its outskirts.
The scheme benefits from the geographic location of the site and will
effectively create a 3-level project with a 22,000 mq ground-level
public park, squares, and pedestrian walkways. Shops and services
will be at boulevard level, with housing on top. A wide underground
parking will secure easy access to the area.
Forum Como will blend in the existing architectural excellence of
the city with respect for the traditional styles and materials but
with state-of-the art design in both external and internal surfaces.
Opening is planned for 2011.
Forum Como will create a new city district with the development
of a 24-hour lifely area that will also promote the growth of the
surrounding areas. Abundant green areas, public areas, and squares
linked by pedestrian connections will create a place that combines
Italian flavour and European standards of inner city centres.

separated urban areas but also bring a new lease of life to this part

Tutti i modelli vantano la tipica comodità di marcia Mercedes e una straordinaria

C rappresenta il nuovo riferimento nel segmento in termini di comfort e

Due i motori, a quattro e sei cilindri. La potenza è stata incrementata fino al 13%
rispetto al modello precedente, mentre i consumi sono stati ridotti fino al 6%.
Dimensioni importanti e linea inconfondibile per la nuova Classe C, che con
i suoi 4.581 millimetri supera il modello precedente in lunghezza di 55 mm.
La larghezza della carrozzeria è aumentata di 42 mm e raggiunge i 1.770 mm,
mentre il passo è stato incrementato di 45 mm e raggiunge i 2.760 mm. Numeri
che creano le premesse per un’abitabilità generosa e perciò per un comfort
maggiore in termini di spazio. Il design della nuova Classe C è basato sul
moderno stile Mercedes che, con l’appassionante gioco di superfici curve e
linee decise, rispecchia la superiorità tecnologica delle vetture con la Stella.
In materia di sicurezza, nell’ambito del suo sviluppo, la nuova Classe C ha
brillantemente superato oltre 100 crash test, fra cui le prove di impatto interni,
particolarmente severe, i cui criteri sono nettamente superiori alle condizioni
previste per legge. Tutte le versioni vantano il tipico comfort di marcia Mercedes
e novità tecnologiche; fra queste il pacchetto Agility Control di recente sviluppo,
con regolazione degli ammortizzatori in funzione delle condizioni di marcia,
l’Intelligent Light System con cinque diverse funzioni luci e il sistema Pre-Safe ®
con misure di protezione preventive per le persone a bordo.
Il modello procedente della Classe C berlina ha venduto più di 1,4 milioni di
esemplari dalla primavera del 2000. Mercedes-Benz ha consegnato l’attuale
Classe C nelle versioni berlina, station-wagon e coupé sportiva a oltre due

C’s design is based on modern Mercedes styling which with its feisty play of
curved surfaces and strong lines, reflects the superior technology of vehicles
bearing the Star. Regarding safety, during design development the new Class
C passed over 100 crash tests with flying colours, including particularly
rigorous internal impact tests going way beyond minimum statutory
requirements. All versions boast typical Mercedes ride comfort as well as new
technological advances; among which the recently developed Agility Control
package with shock-absorber adjustment according to driving conditions, the
Intelligent Light System with its 5 different light functions, and the Pre-Safe ®
system with its preventative protection devices for the people on board. The
previous Class C saloon model has sold more than 1.4 million cars since the
spring of 2000. Mercedes-Benz has delivered the current Class C in saloon,
estate car and sports coupé versions to over 2 million customers worldwide.

Avvicinarsi all’ornitologia e conoscere meglio l’ambiente
ascoltando ciò che hanno da dirci pietre, foglie, piante,
ruscelli. L’escursione ha inizio dalla chiesa di Dasio, il più
alto paese della Valsolda (m 590).
Affrontate la scaletta che porta al limite del sagrato della
chiesa, fate pochi passi e imboccate il Sentiero delle
Quattro Valli - contrassegnato dal numero 3 sbarrato.
Piegando a destra, scendete sul greto del fiume Soldo,
attraversate il ponte di legno e risalite sul versante opposto
fino a incontrare la strada cementata che sale da Drano.
Ora deviate a sinistra seguendo il tratturo, superate alcune
baite (Ranco) fino a entrare nella Foresta demaniale della
Valsolda. Accompagnati dai pannelli didattici della “Via dei
canti”, tra aspre pareti calcaree e boschi di pino silvestre,
proseguite fino all’Alpe Serte. Qui inizia il “Sentiero
Faunistico Maurizio Monti” contrassegnato da bolli rossi.
D’ora in poi vi consigliamo di camminare nel più assoluto
silenzio e di ascoltare le voci del bosco e degli uccelli che
lo popolano. Un’esperienza davvero unica.
Proseguite lungo il sentiero principale (pannello 2 “piccoli
mammiferi”), superate il fiume (pannello 3 “la fauna del
torrente”) e prendete il tracciato di sinistra fino al pannello
4. Qui si incontra il bivio che verso destra porta al Passo
Stretto; nei pressi è posizionato anche un pannello che
narra dell’Orso delle Caverne e della scoperta delle sue
tracce nel Büs de la Noga sopra l’Alpe Mapel raggiungibile
con mezz’ora di cammino. Se siete molto allenati, dalla
Grotta potete proseguire la salita fina al Torrione, arrivare
al Passo del Boi e scendere all’Alpe Fiorina, dove è stato
costruito un piccolo rifugio, sempre aperto. Se invece
preferite stare sull’anello, girate a destra: troverete il

Let’s find out a bit about ornithology and get to know
the environment better by listening to what stones,
leaves, plants and brooks have to say to us. Our outing
will set off from the church in Dasio, the highest village
(590 m) in Valsolda. Go up the steps to the edge of the
Church courtyard, walk on a little bit until you’re on the
Sentiero delle Quattro Valli – indicated by a crossed-out
‘3’. Curve round to the right, down to the bed of the River
Soldo where you go across the wooden bridge and climb
up on the opposite side onto a concrete road coming
up from Drano. Next turn left onto a cattle-track and
after going past several shelters (Ranco) you’ll enter
the Forest of Valsolda belonging to the state. You’ll see
informative signboards along the ‘Via dei Canti’ as you
walk through a rough, limestone-walled gorge and wild
pine woods on to the Alpe Serte. This is the start of the
‘Sentiero Faunistico Maurizio Monti’ indicated by red
marks. From here onwards take our advice and walk in
complete silence so as to hear the voices of the woods
and the birds in them – it’s a unique experience.
Go on along the main path (signboard 2 ‘small
mammals’), cross the river (signboard 3 ‘river fauna’)
and take the track to the left as far as signboard 4. Here
you hit a fork where you go left towards Passo Stretta;
a signboard nearby tells you about the Cave Bear and
how its tracks were discovered in the Büs de la Naga
above the Alpe Mapel, which it takes half an hour’s
walk to get to. After the Grotta the more fit among you
may want to climb up to Torrione, reach the Passo del
Boi, then descend to the Alpe Fiorina where a little
shelter has been built which is always open. If on the
other hand you’d rather stick to the ring trail, then turn

pannello 5 sui pipistrelli, il 6 sui galliformi (gallo forcello,
coturnice...), fino ad arrivare al Passo Stretto (pannello
7 sui rettili), secolare punto di transito fra Valsolda e Val
di Rezzo, e snodo di numerosi sentieri. Seguendo i bolli
rossi del percorso faunistico (e i blu della via dei canti),
svoltate a destra, in salita verso sud: troverete dapprima
il pannello 8 sui rapaci, poi il 9 sui carnivori, proprio
sotto la tana del lupo, suggestiva grotta lungo il sentiero.
Attraversando una valletta, raggiungerete l’Alpe Pessina,
antico insediamento ora attrezzato ad area di sosta, dove
troneggia il pannello 10 sull’entomofauna forestale (gli
insetti del bosco). Poco più in alto, verso il Bronzone,
potrete ammirare un grande sorbo, protetto da una parete
di roccia: un vero monumento vegetale! Tornati alla
Pessina, incontrerete l’ultimo pannello (11) sugli ungulati:
caprioli, cervi, camosci e cinghiali che, se sarete fortunati
e, soprattutto, muniti di binocolo, potrete osservare dal
vivo! Scendete alla Serte, dove si chiudono i due anelli e
ammirate i vecchi fabbricati dell’alpe, i grandi larici, l’antica
calchera, la fontana...
Una volta rientrati a Dasio vi consigliamo di fare
quattro passi fra le strette viuzze di questo piccolo e
sperduto borgo montano: non sarà tempo perso. Fra le
dimore vi sono, infatti, alcuni palazzi patrizi di discreto
interesse nonché la chiesa di San Bernardino da Siena
dall’appariscente facciata color ocra. Fondata in epoca
medievale e inizialmente dedicata ai SS. Giovanni e
Stefano la chiesa fu intitolata al santo toscano nel 1450, in
occasione della sua canonizzazione.

right: you’ll find signboard 5 about bats, number 6 about
galliform birds (fork-chested cocks, quails, etc.), until
you get to Passo Stretto (signboard 6 about reptiles), a
centuries-old crossing point between Valsolda and Val
di Rezzo, and a footpaths’ hub. Follow the fauna trail’s
red marks (and the blue ones of the song trail), then go
right and climb up towards the south: first you’ll come
across signboard 8 about game-birds, then 9 about
carnivorous animals, right below the ‘Wolf’s Den’ – an
evocative grotto along the path. By crossing a small
valley you’ll reach the Alpe Pessina; once an ancient
settlement it now acts as a stop-off area with the 10 th
signboard about insect life (woodland insects). Slightly
higher up towards Bronzone you can admire a big sorb,
or service-tree, sheltered by a rock face: a real vegetable
monument! back at the Pessina you’ll find the last
signboard (11) about ungulates: roe deer, ordinary deer,
chamois and wild boar, which with some luck and (above
all) binoculars you’ll be able to see in the flesh! Go down
to the Serte, where the two ring ends meet, and admire
the Alpe’s old buildings, its great larch trees, the ancient
lime-kiln, the fountain...
On returning to Dasio we suggest strolling down the
narrow streets of this little, out-of-the-way mountain
village – it’s well worth it. Its dwellings in fact include
some fairly interesting patrician homes as well as the
church of San Bernardino da Siena with its striking ochre
façade. Founded in the middle ages and first dedicated
to Saints John and Stephen, the church was named after
the Tuscan saint in 1450 to mark his canonisation.

Fare il bagno senza alcun problema di inquinamento in tutto
il Lago di Como dall’estate del 2009. È una scommessa nella
quale credono gli amministratori locali e che fa sognare
i residenti e i turisti di tutto il mondo. Una corsa contro il
tempo, che da poche settimane può contare su un nuovo
grande impianto di depurazione intercomunale, che serve i
residenti e i turisti di ben tredici paesi lariani sulla sponda Est
del lago e nella Valle Intelvi: Argegno, Blessagno, Casasco,
Castiglione, Cerano, Colonno, Dizzasco, Ossuccio, Lenno,
Pigra, Sala Comacina, San Fedele, Schignano. La caverna di
alloggiamento del depuratore e le tubazioni di collettamento
sono però già pensate per un futuro ampliamento del bacino
di utenza ai comuni di Brienno e Laglio, proprio dove ha
preso casa Clooney, l’ospite più importante del Lago di
Como. I lavori del “Depuratore consortile in caverna delle
Camogge” sono stati eseguiti dalla ditta bolzanina Ati

«I lavori sono iniziati nel 2004 e terminati in meno di tre
anni - afferma Oscar Gandola, presidente della Comunità
Montana Lario Intelvese - un’opera che fino a qualche anno
fa nessuno poteva sognare, oggi è realtà».
Così, ora tutta la Valle Intelvi non scaricherà più a lago.
L’impianto è imponente, ma a bassissimo impatto visivo.
È situato all’interno di una caverna lunga 90 metri e larga
12,5 e conta su 20 chilometri di tubazioni a monte oltre a
9 subacquei. La stazione di pompaggio principale è stata
scavata in un pozzo profondo 28 metri (12 sotto il livello del

a big new water purification plant, a joint council venture
to serve residents and holiday-makers in no fewer than 13
Lariano villages on the Eastern shores of the lake and the
Intelvi Valley: Argegno, Blessagno, Casasco, Castiglione,
Cerano, Colonno, Dizzasco, Ossuccio, Lenno, Pigra, Sala
Comacina, San Fedele and Schignano. The plant’s cavern
site and the supply pipes have already been envisaged
for future extension of the catchment basin to Brienno
and Laglio, right where Lake Como’s most important
guest Clooney has gone to live. Work on the ‘Depuratore
consortile in Caverna delle Camogge’ was undertaken
by the Bolzano firm Ati Atzwanger and the Impresa Fratelli
Biacchi of Plesio, which saw to the excavation of the
cavern and building supplies to ensure the success of the
project. “Work began in 2004 and was completed in less
than three years,” states Oscar Gandola the president of
the Comunità Montana Lario Intelveses.
“A few years ago a job like this would have been a pipe
dream – now it’s come true”.
So no longer will the Intelvi Valley’s effluent be
discharged into the lake. This massive plant is very
unobtrusive. It’s located in a 90 mt-long and 12.5 mt-wide
cavern with 20 km of piping upstreamward in addition
to 9 km underwater. The main pumping station is in a
dug-out, 28 mt-deep well (12 mt below the level of Lake
Como) inside the cavern. An investment of almost 15

al periodo di sperimentazione.
«Nel 2002- ha sottolineato l’assessore all’Ambiente
della Provincia, Francesco Cattaneo - il 70% dei comuni
rivieraschi scaricava senza depuratore. Oggi siamo al 2%. Ed
entro il 2015 nessuno scaricherà più nel lago: la sensibilità
degli amministratori ha permesso passi da gigante».

increases with the arrival of 30,000 tourists. Five hundred
people attended the evocative inauguration ceremony,
marking the start of a trial period.
“In 2002”, Provincial Environment Officer Francesco
Cattaneo pointed out, “70% of lakeside municipalities’
effluent was discharged untreated. Now we’re down to
2%. And by 2015 there won’t be any direct discharge into
the lake: local government’s sensitive attitude has worked
wonders”.

Molina, a Mediaeval
Hamlet where
Illustrious Men
were weaned
Imagine an evocative little square, framed between
ancient stone houses, at the end of which a
centuries-old flight of steps seems to begin its
apparently endless ascent up to the sky... In the
winding little alley it’s as if time had stood still, and
the buildings speak to us of the everyday activities
of the common people and, at the same time, of the
presence of noble families. In one of these, with
an acutely arched door, remains – intact – the fine
base, possibly hewn out of the rock there, seeing
its massive weight and size, of an old press. On
the left-hand side of the square an arch marks the
beginning of what, just under a thousand years ago,
used to be the Strada Regia from Como to Bellagio,
which passed over the high ground to avoid the
steep, impossible terrain near the lake.
Once you’re through the arch, look in front of you
at a large fossil on the façade of a house testifying
(as often occurs in this area) to the enormous
orographic movements millions of years ago which
produced the Alps and their Foothills and forced
back the sea, which was then fairly close. Just
ahead don’t miss the washing and drinking fountain
(1860), embellished by four pillars of local volcanic
granite carved with tenacity by stone-workers,
known as ‘scalpellini’.
Molina offers views it is envied for: to the West over
Lake Como, to the East mountain tops, ahead the
twin hamlets of Lemna and Palanzo. Yet it is also in
a protected position – it was spared the disastrous
flood of 3 rd October 1841.
The Molina Brook (hence the place name) was up to
the 19 th century peppered with factory works, from
which comes the name Molino Valley. Nowadays
it’s a hamlet of Faggeto Lario, a municipality on the
shores of the Lario and one-time working port for
the old comballi, the sailing boats used for shipping
goods, heavy materials and cattle along the lake’s
waterways. The signpost just after Torno on the
‘Lariana’ linking Como to Bellagio and on to Lecco,
marks the beginning of the road which in fact climbs
up to the Valle del Molino.
Walking through this little corner of an ‘ancient
world’, you feel its charm; but who would imagine
that from these four houses more than one
illustrious name born here would set out on the
road to glory. From the many we have chosen
– emblematically – Carlo Pizzala (1803 – 1868), who
would become jeweller to the Spanish Court – but
that’s not all. Queen Isabella commissioned him
to make a special papal tiara which Pious IX used
in the historic ceremony defining the dogma of the
Immaculate Conception, on 8 th December 1854 in
St. Peter’s in Rome.
Of the minor (but no less significant) personages,
there’s a certain Pietro Casarino, also from Molina,
who emigrated to Montevideo, where he would
take in fellow countrymen in trouble. And his house

Una suggestiva piazzetta chiaramente medievale,
incorniciata da antiche case di pietra, sul cui sfondo
inizia una plurisecolare gradinata che pare salire verso
il cielo, come se fosse senza fine. Nei tortuosi vicoli il
tempo è come se si fosse fermato, gli edifici parlano
di attività popolane e, nel contempo, di presenza
di famiglie gentilizie. In uno di essi, con la porta a
rarissimo sesto acuto, è conservato un prezioso
basamento, forse scavato sul posto nella roccia, visti il
peso e la mole, di un vecchio torchio. Sulla sinistra della
piazza un arco segna l’inizio di quella che, poco meno
di un migliaio di anni fa, era la Strada Regia, da Como
a Bellagio, passando per le alture, evitando le impervie
rive scoscese del lago.
Superato l’arco, di fronte, va notato un grosso
fossile sulla facciata di una casa, testimonianza non
infrequente in zona degli immani movimenti orografici,
milioni di anni fa, che hanno dato origine alle Alpi e
alle Prealpi, facendo arretrare il mare, che non era poi
così lontano. Da osservare, poco più avanti, la fontana
lavatoio e abbeveratoio (1860) ingentilita da quattro
pilastri di ghiandone locale, tenacemente lavorato dai
“picapedra”, gli scalpellini.
Molina è in un’invidiabile posizione panoramica, a Ovest
sul lago, a Est sulle cime, davanti ai borghi gemelli
Lemna e Palanzo. Ma è anche in un punto protetto, dato
che fu risparmiata dalla devastante alluvione
del 3 ottobre 1841.
Il torrente Molina, da cui il toponimo, fino al XIX secolo
era costellato di opifici e da qui il nome Valle del Molino.
Oggi è frazione di Faggeto Lario, comune in riva al
lago e un tempo porto operativo dei vecchi comballi, i
barconi a vela per i trasporti di merci, materiali pesanti
e bestiame lungo le idrovie lacustri. Il cartello stradale
sulla Lariana, che collega Como a Bellagio e da qui a
Lecco, poco dopo Torno, segnala l’inizio della strada
che sale appunto alla Valle del Molino.
Camminando in questo pezzetto di “mondo antico” se
ne percepisce il fascino, ma nessuno immaginerebbe
che da queste quattro case sono partiti verso la gloria
non pochi nomi illustri nati qui. Tra i tanti noi abbiamo
scelto, emblematicamente, Carlo Pizzala (1803-1868),
diventato orefice alla Corte di Spagna. Ma c’è di più.
La regina Isabella gli commissionò il triregno, una
tiara speciale, che Pio IX usò nella storica cerimonia di
definizione del dogma della Immacolata Concezione, l’8

dicembre 1854, in San Pietro, a Roma. Tra i personaggi
minori, ma non meno significativi, c’è poi tale Pietro
Casarino, anch’egli di Molina, emigrato a Montevideo,
dove ospitava conterranei in difficoltà. E la sua casa
ha visto soggiornare il futuro Eroe dei due Mondi,
Giuseppe Garibaldi.
A questo punto, dopo aver passeggiato nella storia,
una sosta si impone. Molina può essere definita il
paese delle tre osterie imperdibili, per i menu, per
l’ambiente tipico, per il calore e lo zelo dell’accoglienza.
Provate la Trattoria di Pippi, nell’angolo a destra della
chiesa di Sant’Antonio (1655), più volte rimaneggiata
discutibilmente. Sulla piazzetta dedicata al santo
protettore degli animali apre l’Antica Hostaria Molina,
di Simona Giorla e Gianantonio, con prelibatezze
toscane, tra cui il vero lardo di Colonnata. Infine,
trovate veramente tutto sul piazzale del parcheggio, da
Tipi Tipici, di Alessandra, Lucio e Gloria Rossetti. Non
è soltanto ristorante con veranda, è anche pizzeria, bar,
tabaccaio, edicola e soprattutto pasticceria. Perché
non portarsi a casa un souvenir dolce?

At this point – after going on a stroll through history
– you deserve a break. And Molina could be called
the ‘three not-to-be-missed inns village’, because
of the food on offer, their typical ambience, and the
warmth and enthusiasm of the welcome. Try the
Trattoria di Pippi in the corner to the right of the
church of St. Antonio (1655), which has on occasion
been subjected to some rather dodgy revamping.
In the little square dedicated to the patron saint
of animals stands the welcoming Antica Hostaria
Molina owned by Simona and Gianantonio Giorla,
with Tuscan delicacies including real Colonnata
lard. And finally, you’ll really find the lot in the little
parking square at Alessandra, at Lucio and Gloria
Rossetti’s Tipi Tipici. It isn’t just a restaurant with a
verandah, but it’s also a pizzeria, bar, tobacconist’s,
newsagent’s and (above all) a cake shop. Why not
take a sweet souvenir home with you?

DI STORIA
La prima traccia scritta del nome Molina è in una
Bolla di Papa Lucio III, del 1184. Ma fin dai tempi
più antichi la zona era abitata, sicuramente dai
Celti (1200 a.C. circa), e prima ancora sulle alture,
in particolare nei pressi della fantastica Grotta
Guglielmo, al Monte Bolettone, che merita una
gita-escursione, sono state trovate punte di freccia
che indicano la presenza dell’uomo preistorico. Né
mancano i famosi massi avelli, tombe del V-VI secolo
d.C. scavate nei trovanti, i macigni trascinati fin qui
dai ghiacciai alpini e lasciati sul posto dal loro ritiro
con gli scioglimenti, sette volte, dovuti al rialzo delle
temperature.
Pur tra controversie, visto che gli storici non sono
tutti d’accordo, come accade spesso, di queste parti
era Frà Filippo, morto nel 1416, uno dei più severi
inquisitori che per secoli hanno imperversato nella
diocesi di Como, partendo dall’allora convento di San
Giovanni in Pedemonte, oggi stazione delle Ferrovie
dello Stato. Scrive di Molina, infine, il celebre vescovo
Feliciano Ninguarda nel suo meticoloso diario della
visita pastorale sul Lario e dintorni durata dal 1588
al 1593.
Un’ultima curiosità. L’orrido di Molina, a lago, nei
pressi della nota Villa Pliniana, un tempo era detto
Grotta di Plinio (il Giovane) dal nome dell’umanista
romano scopritore della fonte che ha reso famosa la
villa stessa. Nel XVI secolo era utilizzato come luogo
di frescura per pic-nic, frequentato anche dal nobile
Giovanni Anguissola, artefice della costruzione di
Villa Pliniana.
OVER 3000 YEARS
OF HISTORY
The first written trace of the name Molina is in Lucio
III’s Papal Bull of 1184. But right back in ancient times
the area was inhabited, certainly by the Celts (circa
1200 B.C.) and even earlier on the high ground, in
particular in the vicinity of the fantastic Guglielmo
Grotto on Monte Bolettone – well worth an outing –
arrow heads have been found indicating the presence
of prehistoric man. Then there are many of the famous
sepulchre boulders, 5 th - 6 th century A.D. tombs hewn
out of erratic rocks, dragged all the way from Alpine
glaciers and deposited here, as on seven different
occasions the latter withdrew through melting caused
by rising temperatures.
Amidst controversy (seeing that historians aren’t all
in agreement, as is often the case) Friar Filippo is
said to have lived around here; he died in 1416 and
was one of the harshest inquisitors who for centuries
brutalised the Diocese of Como, setting out from the
then Monastery of St. Giovanni in Pedemonte, now the
State Railway station.
Last of all there is an account of Molina by the
renowned bishop Feliciano Ninguarda in his
meticulous diary of this pastoral visit to the Lario and
district from 1588 to 1593. One last curiosity. The
Orrido di Molina on the lake near the famous villa
Pliniana, used to be called Plinio Grotto (the Younger)
after the Roman humanist who discovered the spring
and made the villa itself famous. In the 16 th century it
used to serve as a cool, shady picnic spot, also visited
by the noble Giovanni Anguissola whose brainchild
the Pliniana was.
