Abstract
This thesis proposes a translation of two articles by two famous Soviet
semioticians, Boris Egorov and Isaak Revzin. The scientific article by Egorov
regards the cartomantic reading of a person’s life as the creation of a plot in
literature. Egorov’s goal is to use the cartomantic system as a rudimentary
model for the analysis of literary plots. The article by Revzin pursues
Saussure’s analogy between language and chess. By comparing language and
chess, he seeks to show that the human intellect uses similar constructions,
elements, relations of elements and rules to solve the various tasks of
processing information. The second part of this thesis provides a commentary
on the translation, the strategy used and the main translational problems.
