TROUBLESHOOTING<br />

The following list is used for troubleshooting and to find<br />

the necessary remedies.<br />

The engine does not start<br />

- the starting procedures are not correctly followed: follow<br />

the instructions given on paragraph “Starting the<br />

engine”<br />

- dirty spark plug: clean<br />

- the spark plug does not spark: adjust the electrodes gap<br />

- faulty starter motor: repair or replace<br />

- faulty start button: replace the switch<br />

The engine has starting troubles<br />

- dirty or worn out spark plug: clean or replace<br />

The engine starts, but it is erratic<br />

- dirty or worn out spark plug: clean or replace<br />

- faulty spark plug electrode gap: adjust<br />

The spark plug gets easily dirt:<br />

- unfit spark plug: replace<br />

The engine overheats<br />

- the air flow on the radiators is blocked: clean<br />

- Faulty cooling fan (TE - <strong>TXC</strong>): replace thermal switch<br />

- insufficient quantity of oil: top up<br />

The engine knocks<br />

- excessive carbon deposit on the piston crown, or in the<br />

combustion chamber: clean<br />

- faulty spark plug or wrong heat rating: replace<br />

The alternator fails to charge, or its charge is insufficient<br />

- the cables on the voltage regulator are badly connected,<br />

or in short-circuit: correctly connect, or replace<br />

- faulty alternator coil: replace<br />

- demagnetised alternator rotor: replace<br />

- faulty voltage regulator: replace<br />

The battery overheats<br />

- faulty voltage regulator: replace<br />

Difficulty in shifting gears<br />

- engine oil with too high viscosity rating: replace with<br />

the recommended oil<br />

The clutch slips<br />

- insufficient spring load: replace<br />

- worn-out clutch plates: replace<br />

Faulty brakes<br />

- worn-out pads: replace<br />

The engine lacks power<br />

- dirty air filter: clean<br />

- the spark plug electrode gap is too large: adjust<br />

- incorrect valve clearance: adjust<br />

- insufficient compression: check for the cause<br />
