ETHICS AND ECONOMICS
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4
Prof. Francesco Marangon
Prof.ssa Francesca Visintin
Prof. Flavio Pressacco
Prof.ssa Marina Brollo
Aims
The ‘Ethics and Economics’ course aims
to focus attention on problems arising
from market evolution and to provide
‘other’ knowledge on firm management
criteria, knowledge that is not included in
traditional courses. The course is complementary
to the other courses taught in the
Faculty since it aims to provide both
knowledge and personal accounts of an
ethical approach to firm governance.
Entrepreneurs and mangers feel that it is
increasingly important to operate according
to ‘social responsibility’ criteria, and
that relationships inside and outside the
company should be conducted in accordance
with a shared code. This has led to
the development of theories and practical
studies on the subject.
Contents
The course will provide an overview of the
ethical problems related to firm growth,
market globalisation and the impact of
business development on society and the
environment. Moreover, the main practical
and theoretical solutions to these
problems will be outlined. In particular
problems related to finance, the environment,
organisation of labour, innovation
and communication will be analysed.
Due to increasing social awareness the
impact of these problems on consumers,
stakeholders, the local area, relationships
inside and outside the firm and between
countries with different cultures and traditions
raise new questions and require
new solutions.
Lectures will be supplemented with seminars
in which well-known managers and
entrepreneurs will tell of their personal
experiences concerning ethics in business.
Each module will include:
3 two-hour lectures (which may involve
outside experts);
1 three-hour seminar given by one or
more outside experts on a suitable day
(e.g. Friday afternoon);
1 public conference at the end of the
whole course, with the participation of
one or more high-calibre speakers.
