Conclusioni<br />
Oltre all’azione farmacologica <strong>per</strong> cui viene utilizzata,<br />
una molecola può possedere non solo effetti<br />
collaterali, ma anche altre proprietà terapeutiche<br />
misconosciute.<br />
I <strong>da</strong>ti sopraesposti indicano che orlistat può essere<br />
a ragione considerato un nuovo inibitore <strong>della</strong> FAS,<br />
dotato di attività antitumorale.<br />
I risultati conseguiti negli studi s<strong>per</strong>imentali utilizzando<br />
linee cellulari di carcinoma prostatico pongono<br />
orlistat tra i farmaci promettenti <strong>per</strong> la chemioprevenzione<br />
di questa neoplasia.<br />
Occorre tuttavia ricor<strong>da</strong>re che l’attuale formulazione<br />
farmaceutica di orlistat consente solo la somministrazione<br />
orale, via attraverso la quale la sua biosponibilità<br />
è estremamente bassa e la sua azione costretta<br />
esclusivamente nel tratto gastroenterico.<br />
Ne consegue che l’utilizzo terapeutico di orlistat<br />
come farmaco chemiopreventivo di tumori di altre<br />
sedi corporee necessita dello sviluppo di nuove formulazioni<br />
farmaceutiche dotate di elevata biodisponibilità.<br />
