La Valle Santa reatina: il cuore del Cammino di Francesco The Sacred Reatine Valley: the heart of the St. Francis Walk Il lavoro dell’uomo esalta i frutti di un territorio incontaminato, da scoprire e apprezzare con tutti i cinque sensi. The work of man has enhanced this uncontaminated region, which is just waiting to be discovered and appreciated with all five of the senses. Su tale sfondo naturale si stagliano le opere dell’uomo: testimonianze di antiche civiltà, dai Sabini ai Romani, ancora vive in territori e musei che ne attestano l’elevato livello culturale. Altrettanto naturale, nelle pause del Cammino, è apprezzare e gustare i frutti di consolidate tradizioni agricole ed enogastronomiche locali, esaltate da un’offerta varia e di elevata qualità. In ogni stagione sagre ed eventi folkloristici permettono di degustare sapori autentici. Il più autorevole tra questi è quello dell’olio extravergine di oliva Sabina DOP, alla cui promozione è dedicata la Strada dell'Olio della Sabina: un itinerario tra i luoghi di produzione, molti dei quali tutelati dal marchio “Città dell’olio” come Poggio Moiano, passando per il Museo dell'olio della Sabina a Castelnuovo di Farfa, per concludersi presso l'Oleoteca Regionale di Farfa, la prima del suo genere in Italia. The landscape provides a stunning natural backdrop to the work of man: the remains of ancient civilisations, from the Sabines to the Romans, live on in areas and in museums that attest to their high level of culture. As they break from their Walk, travellers will appreciate the opportunity to taste the produce offered by local farmers and winemakers, the result of many years of traditional agricultural methods and of a staggering variety and quality. In every season there are local festivals and events that offer visitors the chance to taste authentic regional food and wine. The most well-regarded of all the produce on offer has to be the Sabine DOP extra-virgin olive oil: here a planned itinerary links the different places involved in oil production, many of which, like the town of Poggio Moiano, are distinguished by the “City of Oil” mark. It also takes in the Museum of Sabine Oil in Castelnuovo di Farfa and finishes at the Regional Oleoteca in Farfa, the first of its kind in Italy.

San Martino) e Stipes (Ascrea) Festa del Polentone - Castel di Tora La spiritualità: in cammino verso Rieti Spirituality: the walk towards Rieti POGGIO BUSTONE Nel 1209, al suo arrivo nella valle reatina, san Francesco salutò gli abitanti del borgo di Poggio Bustone con il famoso saluto “Bono jorno, bona gente!”, come riporta la tradizione. Qui egli stabilì il primo sito francescano nel Lazio e qui ebbe le visioni dell’Angelo che gli annunciava la remissione dei peccati e un futuro favorevole per il suo ordine. Oggi qui sorge il convento di S. Giacomo, noto anche come convento di Poggio Bustone, immerso tra verdi boschi, e aperto all’accoglienza di singoli, coppie e gruppi per momenti di condivisione fraterna, di riposo e ritiro spirituale. As tradition has it, on his arrival in the Reatine Valley in 1209, St. Francis addressed the inhabitants of the town of Poggio Bustone with the now famous greeting “Good day, good people!”. It is here that he established the first Franciscan site in Lazio and where the Saint experienced his first vision of the Angel, who pronounced forgiveness for his past sins and foretold a favourable future for his order. Today the Convent of St. James, also know as the Convent of Poggio Bustone, rises up here from its setting deep in the verdant woodland.
