Tra una tappa e l’altra… From one stop to the next...
There are numerous other important, evocative places that are not to be
missed along the route: in the area around Terni, in the village of Valenza,
the new St. Mary of Peace Church is an important artistic and architectural
project that houses a series of paintings depicting the Franciscan
protomartyrs; between Terni and Piediluco, in the village of Miranda in
Papigno, are the remains of an ancient Franciscan settlement. According
to legend, a short distance from Piediluco, just after Labro and Morro,
is the site of the remarkable Beech Tree of St. Francis in Rivodutri.
TERNI
e preziosi affreschi cinquecenteschi.
In Terni, on the site of the Oratory of St. Cassian, donated
to Francis in 1218 by Bishop Rainerio, visitors can today
admire the Convent of St. Francis. The Church was
constructed between 1265 and 1288, then extended
and renovated on different occasions over the next few
centuries. Traces can still be seen of the original building
and its precious frescoes dating back to the sixteenth century.
PIEDILUCO
nell’omonimo lago.
The Church of St. Francis was built between the end
of the XIII century and 1338, as stated in the inscription
at the entrance, to celebrate the Saint’s visit to Piediluco.
This holy building contains precious artistic finds from
the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries and on the portal
are bas-reliefs of fish and equipment used for fishing
in the Piediluco Lake.
